Playland at the Pacific National Exhibition
Vancouver has always had lots to offer in terms of events and attractions to tourists, but one event in particular has garnered lots of attention over the years. The Playland at the Pacific National Exhibition, or PNE, is open every summer in Vancouver, beginning in mid to late August and ending in September. Let’s take a look at what makes the exhibition so exciting, as well as some of the shows and events being hosted there.
Playland features a number of unique rides, each of which is sure to appeal to a different type of rider and offer a range of excitement between slow and easy, and fast and exhilarating. Rides include the Breakdance, the Music Express, the Wave Swinger, the Gladiator, and Hell’s Gate. The Breakdance consists of sixteen cars which spin around a disc, raising and lowering. The Music Express is one of the crowd favorites at the fair, and the ride can get so fast that there are two restraint systems to keep you in your chair. The Wave Swinger was imported from Germany, and has chairs suspended from a large tower that spins and whirls. The Gladiator features twirling and waving boats that raise and lower in the air, while the notorious Hell’s Gate spins riders in midair, while they travel the same direction in a larger circle. There are even water fountains that have a chance of blasting guests who dare to ride!
Playland also features the Kids’ Playce, which is a great setting for families that want to spend some time with their younger ones. There are picnic areas, activity centers, and an array of rides that are designed with younger kids in mind. These kid-specific rides are more focused on gentle riding rather than being whipped around, and can excite young kids without scaring them.
Also featured are lots of games with tons of different prizes to win, as well as a huge selection of food and treats. There is a 4-H festival with shows featuring various types of animals, a professional horse show, and lots of other attractions that will make your experience at the fair one to remember. This is perhaps the largest and most popular fair in all of Canada, and making a trip to Vancouver for it is a vacation that’s fun for the entire family.
