Vancouver a City of Infinite Variety

Vancouver British Columbia is a city nestled in the dramatic meeting of mountains and the sea and bounded by water on three sides. Vancouver’s entirely appropriate motto is ‘By Sea, Land and Air, We Prosper’. Prosperous, bustling and exciting this small city encourages the spirit of exploration that brought its fore-fathers to these shores in the 1860’s. The lure of gold was the siren song that attracted the first residents, but it is the diversity of culture, thriving arts and music scene, stunning parks, fabulous restaurants and temperate climate that are attractions for visitors and residents alike today.

Vancouver a City of Infinite Variety

Vancouver is consistently named a top city to live in the world and it is easy to see why.  The climate is mild and the city is in close proximity to the sea, the mountains, lakes, rivers and surrounding forests. Hiking, skiing, mountain biking and white water rafting are all activities that are easily undertaken from a base in city center – not many cities in the world can claim that! In fact, perhaps because Vancouver has such ease of access to the outdoors, and that it is a city in which it is genuinely easy to walk around, it has a low adult obesity rate – almost half of the Canadian average!  A city that is good for your waistline – imagine that!

Museums, art galleries, an aquarium and plentiful shopping will give you lots to do inside as well. Visit Fort Langley for a peek at Vancouver’s frontier past or visit the Maritime Museum to discover more about its thriving port. Take your kids to Science World or take a harbor cruise. Go for a wander in one of the largest urban parks in North America – Stanley Park, or attend the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare festival for a little culture fix. Like its sister city, Edinburgh, Vancouver is a city of many festivals and you can take your choice of dance, theatre, flower and gardens, winter-sports and children’s festivals.

Vancouver is also a perfect city for epicures. With a divergent population made up of descendants of original settlers and immigrants from Pacific Rim countries, Greece, Italy and South America the options for outstanding cuisine are innumerable and the locals take advantage. Dining out is practically an obligation here and there is no lack of choices of restaurants. Fusion is the name of the game as highly creative local chefs blend flavors from diverse cuisines into stunning dishes that capture the imagination while they tickle the taste buds. Galleries, museums, outdoor sports, festivals, theatre, dance, shopping, gardens, live music and great food – Vancouver is a city of infinite variety just waiting for you to come and explore!
