Burnaby Mountain History
Was originally logged in 1903, Burnaby Mountain quickly became a popular hiking area in the 1920s. In 1957 the city dedicated the area for park and recreation use then Simon Fraser University opened in the mid-1960s. The university then transferred 820 acres of its land to Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area in 1995 complementing the already outstanding park.
From Playgrounds to Hiking
Conservation is a focal point at Burnaby Mountain with such significant ecological assets, including lush forest, birdlife with the like of blacktail deer, bald eagles and many others. So take a swim in the ocean, explore the shoreline or bask in the sun. Both picnic tables and barbeques are throughout and many can be found under shady trees. Explore the vast wonders that can be found or just take a hike up the trails or stop and smell the roses at Centennial Pavilion’s rose garden. Don’t forget to visit the acclaimed Horizons Restaurant just a few steps away from the rose garden.
