The Golden Spike Days were created in 1971 by the Kiwanis Club of Coquitlam & Port Moody to commemorate the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway line and its arrival at the Port Moody Station but it wasn’t until 1990 that it became the Golden Spike Days Festival that we know today.
The Golden Spike Days volunteers are made up of tireless people, dedicated to making the festival a successful family event. They deal with everything from finance to entertainment, site management, event co-ordination and the interactions with the generous sponsors to ensure that the public can enjoy a trouble-free and fun-filled time at the park. These enthusiastic members form a big piece of the puzzle that is the Golden Spike Days Festival.
Each year hundreds of volunteers work all year to deliver a festival that the citizens of Port Moody and surrounding communities can enjoy. Without these individual’s tireless hours of dedication and hard work the festival would not take place. From garnering sponsors, organizing events and entertainment to ensuring the event is marketed, the volunteers put in hundreds of hours throughout the year to deliver a festival that has been celebrated for 31 years. See below for volunteer positions.
—-
FLOATER: Come and be adventurous - fill in wherever extra help is needed.
SITE MANAGEMENT: Could involve moving equipment, checking out tables and chairs, assisting with stage set-up. Crews also needed the day before the festival and day after.
BEVERAGE GARDEN: Adults only please for ticket sales. Some cash experience would be useful.
GREETERS: To welcome visitors to the site &hand;out programs.
INLET RUN: A 5/10k Run/Walk is scheduled for July 1st. Volunteers will be needed for 2-3 hours the day of the Run. We need:

Hey All,

I hear everyone talking about taking trips to South Africa or Kenya to build the communities and build new homes thesedays. I would love to contribute, but I’ve got tons of obligations at home. I just don’t have that time, and when I am “off” work, I do want to relax. But, I recently came upon this article in the Vancouver Sun newspaper about local celebrities hosting trips for charity. I thought, what a great idea! So I looked more into it. There’s this volunteer committee that organizes these trips and they’re endorsed by local celebrities such as Chef John Bishop and Radio Personality Vicki Gabereau (she is actually a part of the committee). So just so you guys know, there are ways you can contribute by just taking a trip with your kids, your parents, your friends and relaxing. That’s why I wanted to spread the word.

One I am contemplating on going on is the Vicki Gabereau train journey, which also features John Bishop and Ron James. It’s to Banff with 5 -star everything. At first, I didn’t know who to call but I found out that Carlson Wagonlit Travel Kerrisdale helps organize it. To save you guys time, here’s the phone: 604-264-0552 and email cwtravel at shaw dot ca. Let me you if you’re interested too! Oh by the way, part of the funds are going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Has anyone been on one of these yet? It’s my first time, so I wonder how it is….. oh deadline is next Tuesday, so think fast!
