Brigade Days
23433 Mavis Ave.
Fort Langley, BC V1M 2R5
Sat Aug 2, 2008 - Mon, Aug 4, 2008
It was August 2nd, 1858 when the British Parliament passed an Act to establish the Colony of British Columbia. More than three months later the new governor came to Fort Langley to officially proclaim the Act and BC was born. Live historic dramatizations will be taking place each day; guides and volunteers in traditional garb will demonstrate and reveal a way of life that was coming to an end as the new colony was beginning. The event runs all weekend 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Weekend highlights include: -Participate in the Chief Trader’s Dinner on Saturday at 5:30 PM. Purchase your dinner from the Mighty Fraser Bistro and join the re-enactors for their evening meal. -The descendents of Fort Langley will reunite on Sunday afternoon. Anyone who has connections to historic workers of the Fort are welcome to attend, share with other descendents and fill in some of the missing links in your family line. -Traditional canoe brigade arrival at the waterfront on Sunday, August 4th at 1:00 pm. -Picnic in the Park concert at 6:00 pm on Monday featuring Tiller’s Folly. -Local genealogical societies will be onsite all weekend to support those interested in finding their roots, especially if they were associated with the fur trade, the Fraser Valley and the Hudson’s Bay Company. -For the truly adventurous, consider joining the Simon Fraser Bicentennial canoe journey.
