myself and my boyfriend are thinking of moving to Vancouver this summer.
I am a graphic designer with 2 years experience and a college degree. My
boyfriend is in marketing with 2 years experience, a degree and a masters.

Any help full tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

I work in graphic design, but I hear that many places are cutting staff. Designers are getting laid off. Electronic Arts laid off hundreds of workers recently. Workers are getting let go, but companies aren’t finding any replacements. It’s a tough go here right now. I’m just struggling to stay employed and afloat. Hope that helps.

Yes, a friend of mine was laid off recently from Electronic Arts. There are NO graphic design jobs in Vnacouver. Your boyfriend might find a job but you, I doubt it. There are people with alot more experience than you out of work. It’s a deep recession. Further, everyone wants to live in Vancouver and the competition is FIERCE. Surely you can figure this out for yourself. For each job posted, there are 200-300 applications sent to it. I’ve asked the employers and that’s what they said. Sometimes it takes them 1-2 months to weed through all the resumes and they do give up some way through. My advice… go somewhere else. Up north is good. It pays well and there are actually jobs there. I don’t know anyone who has a job. Everyone I know is out of work. Ready to starve? Vancouver - and I grew up here and watched it change for the worse with all the newcomers - has always been a city of starving artists, unlike Toronto where there are actually jobs.
