This site is now on regular D.V!!!
Will this end up like the old D.V.???
I hope not, it is kind of nice on here now, a tad slow but better slow then over run by rude people!
I guess the good side is you need to register to post but that never stops the unwanted from showing up!
Lets just keep out fingers crossed the riff raff stays put!
No worries! It’s all about moderating and with guest posting disabled it’s easier to keep a sanity check. This is the forum for British Columbia and around the world to come and see that the city of Vancouver is represented well.
I see they have a sticky thread announcing this forum, I guess now that we’ve tested it they are ready for more posters! :D
The flood gates are now officially open. It is going to be interesting to see if this forum changes into another boring forum with all the same posts by bored kids. If that happens I am staying on the other side of the fence.

Well, all I can say is if it turns into the toilet humour/racist dumping ground the other forum was, I’m outtie! I think I’m referring to the same idiot board as the rest of you. No chance there’s more than one.
They are debating whether they want to register or not. it is not the same when you have a name to your post! I know if I play on the other side of the gate, I will say things as a guest I would not say as me! HEE HEE
They enjoy trolling, it is the favorite past time sport of all forums!
They are roaming around and checking us out. Then they will jump in for the kill…..........
It’s all a matter of what policy the mods and the owners take. Registration or no registration, they have the power to tell a poster “Look, cut out the nonsense, or we’ll delete or ban you.” I no longer post on the regular DV because now that they no longer have registration there, it’s once again impossible to tell the real Vivek from the handlejacker.
I am already posting on Discover Seattle and Plenty of Torrents as well as Vancouver Community Forum. If VCF becomes another DV, whether I stay will be determined by exactly what kind of problems the trolls give me. And you have to see the owner’s point of view as well. This is a business, after all, and what bloggers really enjoy is free self-publishing facilities, underwritten by advertising. Advertisers won’t spend their dollars unless they see good traffic. Mods and owners walk a tightrope between drying up, and hosting creeps and idiots.
I always tell posters on Plenty of Torrents exactly what I tell folks on this new Community Forum. “Come on, gang, let’s make sure we all regularly contribute posts. If we want a forum free of assholes, we need to make it worth the advertisers’ while.”
Well said Vivek! It’s not about ratings on DV, that is for sure. Advertisers want to see good content and even though the traffic is there it can be somewhat of a turn off to the advertisers. One thing is for sure not all content is created equal. That is one of the reasons we created this forum, we wanted an open place where conversation and experiences rule not the insane thought of the day. Would I rather everyone posted here and the content was good all the time, yes I do. For the most part the content is really good here and I enjoy the people that come to discuss life, events and general things. The balance is in creating a healthy environment where everyone can ask and answer questions without getting smacked around. DV forum is the free flow entertainment center and it has its place on the internet. With that said there is a lot of serious conversation that happen there and it’s not all shuck and bull, it’s just a few that like to make it their own playground. So banning does not work, it’s the proxy that keeps the offenders coming back. There has been many a troll that stopped trolling and became a vivid part, full of controlled expression. The flip side to all this is if a forum does not move then most new visitors will not come back. When questions get answered then people feel confident that they will be interacted with and it’s not a ghost town. DV among all its issues provides that, yes handlejacking is not fun but it can be fixed. The constant battle of trolls is not fun but manageable. I myself am registered at 15+ forums for various things and I can say without pause I want to post without registration most of the time. Don’t give me a code or some long double opt in process, after all I am there maybe for a set of answers then I am off. Now I do have about 3 forums I regularly post on that I had to register with and I feed the community with questions and answers. Why do people come to this DV, it’s different, it’s worth registering, I am always around and constantly checking in to make sure everyone is ok. There are few forum support teams like DV has, between mods and myself we can reached. Most of the time the admin or support team for a forum is non-existent. So welcome to the DV Community forum, glad you’re here.
Just a polite curiosity question. Why have you discontinued registration on the Monkey Forum? It enabled people to distinguish real posters from jackers. I’m sure you had some legitimate reason, like say it was too costly. But I used to love posting there. Now I can’t, because decent people can no longer tell whether it is really Vivek, or it’s Monkey Boy in disguise.
Good question. Basically whether or not registration is open or closed on the DV forum does not matter. You are registered and still your name gets jacked, so if someone registers then their handle can get jacked also, even admin. The reason we closed registration is that many people who register are looking for community (unless they want to purposely be trouble), so they get pointed over here. They can still ask questions on the DV forum but if they want community this is where they will find it. Out of the 4000+ on the DV forum registered very, very few use their handles. We looked at the stats and a great portion of the registered handles never posted. This forum is different and about 75% of registered users post something. Compared to DV which is about 15%, rough guess. Like I said before the handlejacking issue can be resolved by coding, though the time required is more then the forum is making and not many are bring it to issue.
well I’ve noticed a couple of butt sniffing hounds enter this place! Can we slam the door on their head before they get too comfortable?
Everybody deserves a chance. If anything gets out of hand, we’ll take care of it. On the other side, pretty much anything goes. Which is great. But here, we’re aiming to please.
Anybody can make a report of course, but can also feel free to pm me if there’s anybody or anything that they are uncomfortable with.
Average Canadians are peaceful and polite. They may have prejudices—- we all do——- but don’t express them like the baboons on Trollistan. They should create a new forum called Discover Baboons, and tell the riff-raff that they are restricted to posting there.
