i am seriously considering a move to Vancovour and was wondering how the long term climate looks for a british qualified electrician, i am aware of the global economic slow down, and was wondering if my trade was generally in demand for the region. i am aware i have to sit a codes of conduct exam within 6 months as i almost stayed in Calgary when i visited but i would much prefer Vancovour. i am a very experienced electrical foreperson of 41 and mainly work in a industrial/commercial enviroment.
i would appreciate any feedback
regards Graham

It may be somewhat difficult for you to find work in Vancouver with the economic slowdown hitting the housing/construction industry.

You might have a better chance in Calgary, Alberta or possibly Saskatchewan. It depends upon how brave and tough you are tho’, given those places often dip to -40 below in the winter (without the wind chill factor).

Some places which come to mind which may need workers are Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray. Both in Alberta.

In British Columbia, Fort Saint John and Dawson Creek.

Again, -40 winters.

I think the key is you need a Canadian sponsor who is willing to train you and accept your qualifications.

It might be easier if you were American.

Europe is a different zone altogether.

Building slow down is right across the board.  Calgary used to be booming as well as Edmonton but now construction has really slowed down in both cities.  Home renos might be on the rise because of more people close to home.

Try this website.  It is a electricians association.

i wish you well and good luck.  wink

No, he is a British Citizen.  They have special priviledges unlike other immigrants.  Ft. McMurray will pay you better than London, UK.  And it costs more than London.  Could you believe it?  Go and see.
