There will be a great opening night gala at the Grolsch Fringe Club. The festival lounge is a great place to catch up with friends, drink, dance, and enjoy the experience. This is the beginning of the festival so come and jump in, more fun and entertainment to follow.

DJ Abasi has many styles of music but he is known for electro, underground deep funky, vocal disco house and mash up eclectic. Best known as a resident DJ at the infamous Lotus Long Weekend series, Crown Vic mashes up house, hip hop, breakbeats, and 80s and 90s in a dance floor frenzy.

The program Catalogue will be available for pick-up September 15th (from 12 am-7pm) at the Vancouver International Film Centre, 1181 Seymour Street. There will be 332 films from 60 countries, 575 screenings over only 16 days. The Festival is among the largest film festivals in North America with 150,000 admissions, showing the worlds top films and including undiscovered jewels.
There will be three main platforms, East Asian films, Canadian films and documentary programs called nonfiction features. At least one third of the showings will be documentary in nature and content.
We have an enthusiastic audience of film buffs. Come out and meet fellow film lovers while you have this opportunity.

It is celebrated as a gathering of world films coming from sixty countries. Some of them will never be available for you to see again. So, watch this website for postings of up and coming films in the different participating theatres in Vancouver.

Vancouver International Writers Festival - Writing Contest

Deadline for this contest is 5 pm, October 26th. Drop off your entries at Book Warehouse locations, or delivered by hand or mail to the Writers Festival office. All entries will be professionally judged . All winners will be informed no later than January 12, 2009. 1st prize is $350 2nd prize is $250.00
There will be awards for the top two two entries in both poetry and creative short fiction. The winners will be published in subTERRAIN magazine. Use your imagination, be original, let your emotions flow, use a fluid writing style and be organized. That’s what the judges are looking for. The contest is open to all writers.Only entries for previously unpublished work in each category will be accepted. Poetry, in any style,:has a limit of 500 words. There is a limit of 1500 words on the Creative Short Story Fiction: Do not put your name on your story or poem to ensure unbiased judging. Do include your name, address and phone number and the word count of your piece on a seperate piece of paper. There is a $10 entry fee, Canadian money only, All cheques should be payable to the Vancouver International Writers Festival. Drop off your entries at your local Book Warehouse store or at the Vancouver International Writers Festival, 202-1398 Cartwright St., Vancouver, BC V6H 3R8. A great day out for parents, grandparents and children. This is music for the young and a wonderful way to introduce your children to it. These wonderful performances are geared to children ages five to eleven and anyone young at heart.
The Instrument fair allows kids to touch and play real orchestra instruments in the Orpheum lobby, one hour before the concert begins. A wide variety of instruments will be on hand for them. Also, they can “write” their own music at the Composition Table and one of the members of the VSO will play it for them. What great fun for them and for you to watch them as they experience music and all it has to offer.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra brings Kid's Koncerts "Inspector Tovey Goes To China" direct from their Asia-Pacific tour direct to our stage for you to enjoy. Inspector Tovey returns to investigate the instruments used in the Eastern and Western music traditions. A great performance for children ages five to eleven.
