In the beginning of the year 2004 there were 935 Filipinos living in Finland. Of those, about 598 were still Philippine citizens. In the year 2005 there are about 1000 Filipinos living in Finland.

First Filipinos immigrated in the 1970s. The increase was fastest towards the end of the 1980s and in the beginning of 1990s, when several tens of immigrants settled here every year.

That's a realy interestig thread. Don't listen to those idiots who say  nobody cares. I'm really courous what their life in Finland looks like. How they are treated by native Finish people and if they acculturate. It would be interested to hear a Filipino person tralk in Finnish. Are you Filipino-Finish.
  It's also interesting what their life is like compared to their counterparts in other European countries. I have a feeling that the immigrant situation in Findland is different cause there are not a lot of immigrants there compared to place like the UK , Germany or Holland. I wonder if that';s good for the immigrants because if there aren't as many then there might be less xenophobia but since the people are not used to immigration this can produce more xenophobia. That's a really interesteing issue.
 I wish them luck and hope they have a good life in Finland.

Can't we all be civil and tolerant of other races if we can't be friends with them? Filipinos has gone through a lot of hardship because of corrupt government, they try their best doing jobs most people don't want to do to be able to send money back home to their loved ones. They are resilient and hardworking people. They sacrifice a lot and are unselfish. Don't they deserve respect and kindness from people?

Kindness I think will make them more complacent and not rise up to the social ladder. Only the racist would probably want the Filipinos at the bottom. But I think harmless tounge in cheek insults should get Filipinos out of their comfort zone and be true to the Model Minority spirit.

All the fuckin' racist out there are just intimidated of filipinos that is why you all are so fuckin' racist to them.  You all know that filipinos are way smarter, nicer, friendlier and they do not discriminate other races not like other races that are so racist to filipinos just because most of them are ugly. You do not judge filipinos from their physical appearance, you have to get to know them first and I'm fuckin' sure that you will think that they are way better than other races out there.

i am a Filipina (a filipino girl), in case none of you racists know, and i am way better than all the other people in my whole school. i am in a lot of sports, and of course i am still the best in everything. Actually,  not all filipinnos are good-looking. i mean not everyone is perfect, but filipinos are very close to being one. all of you racists are just saying that we are ugly because all of you are just jealous. we can't help it, guys just follow us everywhere. Actually a lot of guys like me in my school, because filipino people are just realy the best and the most good-looking people in the whole world. lol so funny. racism will never fade away, its how white people cope and make them feel better about themselves. even in the philippines there's racism, like when you have a darker complexion you're seen as a lower class person.

there's no "better" race, it all depends upon the individual.if he's asian and people look down on him, maybe he should try do something to earn respect. its funny coz sometimes, it's the asians themselves who do things that put them down or cause the other races to look down on them. because it's part of human nature to generalize..and stuff.

The #1 export from the Philipines is workers. Its a culture that leaves home to try and elevate the rest of the family out of poverty.

All oriental races, like Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Filipino, etc.
They are all decendants of Chinese people.

There is a majority of ugly/beautiful people in every race.

i had a run-in with a filipino here in canada.

i was at a tenants association meeting waiting for the meeting to start and these two filipino women were sitting beside me speaking togolu (what ever the filipino language is). i looked at one woman and she suddenly got this horrible look on her face and said, "Oh, i forget, YOU don't like us talking in the lingo."
it really didn't matter to me what she was speaking, but you see, i'm blonde and blue-eyed and she automatically figures i'm a racist.
