Just curious, as of yet I have not yet talked to the girl in the food court, but I was wondering what people's impression is of smokers and dating.
I dated one girl who smoked and I'm a non-smoker. In Europe, especially Paris and Aberdeen, people smoked all the time. Coming back to Canada, I was surprised at the number of young women that smoked.
What are your views on smoking? Would you date someone who smoked?

Have to say doesn't really matter to me.
If they were constantly smoking it would, but most young female smokers I know only smoke 5 or 10 ciggies a day (and want to give up to boot) and that's not terrible.
Obviously I'd prefer it if they didn't smoke, but if you asked me whether I'd rather have a 9/10 chick who smoked or a 7/10 who didn't - I'd take the former every time.
Girls who smoke tend to be more sexually liberal in my experience too. When I was at school, it was always the girls who smoked you knew would put out.
As for smoking pot - that's a plus in my book if she likes the odd spliff from time to time. Wouldn't want to go out with a lass who was up tight about drugs.

Yeah, I would. I mean it's just a habit, it's not a big deal for me. But I do prefer people who don't smoke.

totally disgusting habit. Why is it that so many young girls are starting to smok c
now. Is it really that cool in high schools now to smoke. I thought it was going the other way and it was becoming socially unexceptable to light up. I guess i was wrong. |

Seriously, some of the people who claim "never" - if [insert your most lusted after celebrity of opposite sex] came up to you and made an indecent proposal, but while holding a ciggie - would you really say no?

Not cool at all, taste disguting when you french kiss, can tolerate it only for one night stands, especially since alcool help to destroy the bad taste.

quote:Yes, I would. When something is a turn off, it is a turn off. (Not to sound condescending, but I trust that you know what a "turn off" means.) Pleasure and disgust can't exist in the same place. You can't flirt and vomit at the same time. [:P] |

Doesn't matter to me. It's surprising to see how many "non-smokers" smoke when they go out for drinks. Just a FYI for the ladies: Brad Pitt smokes.

Awhile back I had a date with this girl that was a customer where I work. We were really hitting it off and then suddenly it was revealed that she was a smoker. I instantly knew that the date was over and ended it shortly after. I felt really bad about this because other than the smoking I kinda thought we were making a connection. But smoking is an absolute deal breaker.
Can't stand it.

The guy that said smoking is a deal-breaker is dead right. I don't care how hot, nice, funny a girl is. If we are on a date or something and it becomes known she is a smoker, it's over for me. I will probably be polite and finish out the current date/dinner or whatever but then that's it.

Everybody I know or have known is a smoker. This goes back generations when members of my family used to would sit around the cabin smoking ciggies, drinking and playing cards.

smokers stink
they have no idea what they smell like - i used to sit next to a smoker at work and she smelled awful
so having to kiss a smoker would be gross
though the person i am seeing smokes casually - but its gross

I don't believe anyone would not date or be friends with someone just because they smoke. I can think a million other things that are bigger turn offs: unattractive, overweight, bad personal hygiene, annoying personality, the list goes on.

I could never kiss a woman smoker. Mostly out of fear that I would end up transferring vomit into her own mouth.
Sorry, disgusting, not called for.

Dating and being friends are two very different things. Unless you snog your friends that is.
You wouldnt kiss someone after you ate a plate full of tuna and blue cheese so why do people think its okay to kiss someone after smoking a cigarette?

Let's take dating as an example then. A previous post described a situation where the guy ended the date as soon as the girl told him she smokes. Now if she smelled so horrible and he had to pinch his nose and all, wouldn't he have known she's a smoker wayyyy before they even went on the date? My point is there are smokers with good personal hygiene that you can't tell smoke, even when kissing is involved. I can see your point for people who smoke like a chimney and stink 24/7. But to generalize all smokers and use that as the sole criteria for dating is ridiculous.
