I am a gypsy.

I know them from my home country. They immigrated to Europe from India a few hundred years ago. They generally have dark skin, their own independent culture and their unique ways on life. They generally are lower class and tend to live together in big families. Often they sell junk to make a dime instead of getting a 'regular' job. They do whatever it takes to survive, (lying and cheating included). They tend to go door to door selling junk, don't let them in because they will start taking your stuff. They don't give up easily.

"Gypsies" or the Roma people or various other names are a people believed to have originated in India (Punjab region) and migrated across Asia and into Europe several hundred years ago.

They encoutered hate pretty much where ever they went and in some Eastern European countries they remained slaves until the end of the 19th Century.

There is a belief they're thieves and untrustworthy etc. and a good many of them don't work and just beg.

People tend to not like them because many tend to do small crimes such as stealing and breaking in. They do experience racism but they are no angels either. Far from it.

Your friend is not a gypsy. Gypsies are a group of people in India who left India to Europe at a certain time period. I don't know their exact origins but I have interacted and even grew up with several gypsies.

Yeah gypsies tend to wonder from place to place but they are not Hungarians. They only Hungarian in that many live in Hungary but even more live in Romania. The distinction there is more difficult because Romanians tend to have darker skin also.

Gypsies or 'Roma' people believed to have originated in nothern India and migrated westward toward Europe...most don't look particularly european.

They're known for their inability to integrate into society and choose to asociate mainly among themselves and many resort to panhandling and petty theft to earn a living.

In Spain Gypsies are called "Gitanos"(hi-ta-nos)...this is a famous gitano flamenco dancer who was involved in a hit-and-run without a license...which led to a murder conviction.

Calling Hungarians gypsies is like calling all British Columbians Punjabi. Just because many gypsies immigrated to Hungary but even more to Romania, it does not make the majority of the people who live there gypsies.

I don't know how beautiful they are but I tend to respect people who make an honest living. Many gypsies do, but many do not.
