forget tanslink..they wont hire you..you got to be ex cop

So if your in security ...your best bet is to work LPO and move into in house positions

My friend alex worked for 2 yrs lpo and now is making 17 at home depot

Ive been working security for 2 yrs and my wages are going backward and my duties are getting worse..i dont see how a guard with my ed: degrees , diplomas, experience for 2 yrs, sup experience is benefiting any company by being the night watchman ?

That doesn't really answer my question.... and GVTAPS is primarily ex police members. Lazy bastards. I had to threaten to let a guy go who was fighting an arrest because he was on meth before they would cuff him. sigh...

which is adjacent to Gateway Sky Train Station.

For Transit Security hopefulls:  You don't have to be an ex-cop.  There are 2 agencies working at Translink.  There is the GVTA Police (GVTAPS), and Transit Security.  The GVTA Police primarily work on Skytrain.  Transit Security primarily works on the buses, and Seabus.  Both agencies have authority on the entire system though.  GVTA Police have full police powers anywhere in the Province, just like VPD.

In regards to salary, Transit Security makes more than double what most regular contract security make.  Plus they are unionized, which makes for a nice benefits package.

Hello,

With respect to the transit police members being all ex-cops, this is just not true.  We are hiring several young people without policing experience, but who are working toward a career in policing (have volunteer experience with policing agencies, work experience as Skytrain Attendants, Deputy Sheriffs etc.)  All the requirements are posted on the website at www.gvtaps.bc.ca.  It is sad to hear that many have negative views of our officers, but be assured that most of our officers are dedicated to serving the public and keeping you safe.  They actually do care about that, which is why they put with constantly sustaining injuries to themselves in the name of keeping criminals off the skytrain.  I'm sorry for some of you that have had bad experiences with our officers, but if you ever feel you have been treated unfairly, don't hesistate our front counter at 604-515-8300 to register a complaint.  We do take this seriously and try to resolve these problems the best we can.

Forget about it.  These idiots don't even know the right answer to some of the interview questions they're asking.  For ex:  What do u do when someone doesn't pay the fare.. pretty basic isn't it?  Throw the person off the bus!! and/or give them a fine.  But the stupid interviewer doesn't seem to get this.. If they didn't like the answer, then FORWARD ALL YE FARE AVOIDERS!

Maybe next time you should think about your answers in your head before you open your mouth.  Before you start "throwing" people off the buss and start handing out tickets maybe you should engage the person in conversation and ASK what is going on.  Why haven't they paid the fare?  Explain to them that while in a fare they are required to purchase a ticket, and go from there.

Seems like you are someone who likes confrontation while in reality 99% of problems are solved through verbal communication.  And then when you felt you weren't credited properly for your answer you bombed the rest of the interview on purpose.  So you demonstrated you are someone who just gives up when faced with a challenge.  These qualities are not what GVTAPS or Transit Security are looking for.

Translink Security looks for people with common sense.  You need to be polite, yet firm at the same time.  It's not about throwing everyone off the bus/skytrain.  Although Translink Security can lawfully arrest people, most problems can be solved verbally.

I would say size matters, but I'm not Translink so what I have to say is just opinion.  I've seen Transit Security Officers have to wrestle drugged up people to the ground, and then get them into handcuffs.  Not an easy task.

1 question: Would a short asian male wrestling champion back highschool with 3years postsecondary education and a year of security experience get a chance atleast an interview with translink security?

Last time I looked they preferred at least 2 years Security experience, but If I were you I'd apply anyways as that could have changed.  I know I'll be applying when they post jobs.  The pay is the highest I've seen for any Security out there.  I think they start at $21/hr.

I know this is a little off topic but after reading through the thread, I just went to check Translink and Coast Mountain Bus Companies web sights.

CMBC sure pays well!!!

There is a job listed there for a parts-person...$30/hr!!!

This is what you need:

Applicants must have a B.C.T.Q. certificate as a Partsperson-Industrial Engines and Equipment.  A minimum of one year experience as a Partsperson in Trucking or Heavy Equipment environment.

How would one even go about getting a B.C.T.Q. certificate as a Partsperson-Industrial Engines and Equipment???? Does BCIT or Kwantlen offer a course in that?
