Nowadays, it has become a fashion to shoot, slash, bomb, torture and maim in the name of Islam. Has unchanging Islam lost its way? Most other religions have since realised the errors of their ways.

I thought that was a lovely way to put it . "lost it's way". perhaps that's it. They are lost right now and need to find a path that is more peaceful loving and able to get along with other religions.
All religions go through "growing pains" and as Islam pretty much stayed in one place , it didn't mix with other religions and learn how to "live and let live" while continuing on it's way. The religions that travelled, had to learn to live with other religions. Some religions suffered more than others while this went on.
Islam in this sense is "new' as they have remained ( in the majority) in one area of the world. Muslims who have immigrated to other countries are finding out that peace, tolerance, generosity can exist while keeping to your own religion. Perhaps they can talk to their fellow muslims and pass along helpful hints?

The only purpose in being alive for a non-Muslim is to be killed or relegated to a subservient and inferior level of existence. It's very true that most religions have changed over centuries but Islam has not. Where are the moderate Muslims and why don't they speak up in a meaningfull way? Just what is it that you are smoking?? I find it really strange when with all of the information avaliable regarding the evils of Islam some people still find a way to defend it. That is very telling in that some people have very selective ways of gathering and disemanating information, or in other words they only see and learn what they want excluding what they don't like. Islam has not changed. One of the major tenets of Islam is that it MUST spread by the sword and that those failing to submit are to be killed. That death sentence is especially intended for Christians and Jews. In this regard Islam is the same today as it was taught by Mohammed while he was butchering innocent people in the name of Allah. Problems with Christianity and Judaism etc arose when individuals within those organizations became corrupt and tried to change the teachings of their respective religions to their own benefit.
