The more you give, the more they want. Let's make these bums getting tired of asking and not getting. That's the only way to put them out of the streets. IF ONE DAY YOU FEEL SORRY FOR ONE OF THEM, JUST BUY HIM A SNACK, BUT NEVER MONEY.Otherwise, you are helping to support a bums forever.

You don't give them anything or buy them anything. Yet people do.

Once I was at the 7-11 on Denman and there was this cutie kid panhandling. He had spiky blond hair, didn't smell and was quite engaging... so I bought him a Dairy Queen meal, at the time it was freezing out, he was shivering in a t-shirt. I was going to buy him a fleecy from London Drugs, but the bastard wrangled the $20 outta me that I was going to spend on the fleecy... these bums are very good at extracting your money. I wish I could do that.

I give change sometimes or a cigarette sometimes.

Depends on the person and the situation.

I was tempted the other day, the dude was in a wheelchair. He asked if I had any change, I didn't so I told him. Which was the honest truth. You shouldve seen the disgusted look on his face when I told him that I didnt.

I should add, the dude in the wheel chair had no legs. Not sure what wouldve been the right thing to do in that situation had I had some change.

You are good heart but also a sucker. A youngster asking for money is even worse than a old fellow doing the same thing because the youngster wants the money to buy drugs. The old fellow could do the same thing, but at least, he has less life left. If the youngster had good intentions, or if he was a good character, he was going to find a menual job anywhere.

That Quarter Lady annoys me, I first encountered her 11 years ago and yet I still see her downtown, asking for quarters.

I know, I know, but he was so damn cute... I had some sorta 'father' reaction. He said he was 25, but he looked 19. And he was shivering majorly. He wanted to go to my van to warm up, but I said no. That was the ONLY time I've ever had extended interaction with a 'bum'.

When they ask for money you immediately slap them across the face and say, "ask again". They won't bother you after that. just kidding: I'd never do that...who knows what infectious germs you might pick up from touching them.

But seriously, if someone looks like they're able to work I don't give them a dime. I met a homeless man a few years ago and arranged to get him a palce to stay, a job and basically everything he needed. The newspaper even wanted to do a story on his life.

But, he never showed up and when I saw him again he said he was ashamed to admit he was an alcoholic. Yeah, admitting you're an alcoholic is so much worse than living in an alley and rooting through garbage cans.
