Without the use of nuclear weapons, Russia would win easily. Why? Because they are more hardened warriors for one thing, and far more experienced. They also have superior technology. America would not win this war and probably get a taste of their own medicine. What american military did to the Iraqi military, the russian military could do the same to the americans.

Thats my opinion, what do you think?

Where will this war be fought? Will the U.S. be attacking or defending? If the U.S. has to attack using airborne and amphibious landings, Russia has an obvious advantage. If Russia attacks the EU by heading west, the advantage shifts to the Americans. The U.S. can project conventional force becasue of its logistical capacity. The Russians will have to arrive via road. The U.S. Air Force has pilots who have years of actual combat experience. The Russians...? Many U.S. troops have had multiple tours in a hot war area. The Russians have not had that experience since they left Afghanistan in '89. The American Navy is in much better shape that the Russian fleet which includes many vessels that can not leave port. All of this is mere speculation, as any war between the U.S. and Russia will go nuclear.

The last time I recall the American's were able to subdue the harsh and unforgiving terrain of Afghanistan in their aims to topple the Taliban government. The Russians failed with their experience in the same region 20 years earlier. The fact that the US army is the most technological advanced army in the world and that their soldiers are gaining experience in Iraq would make them very favourable victors in a conventional army battle. If this were 30 years ago I may be giving a different answer.

Back in the cold war era, Russian army would have obliterated the american military. Nukes was the only way they fended off a soviet invasion. And the only reason why our neighbors down south arent draped in red.

But with US making technological advancements, I would say it would be a long bloody war with Russia barely winning.

Right now in America's current state fighting 2 wars and possibly starting a 3rd with Iran, Russia would absolutely dominate the USA but it would be hindered by the European powers.

Russia doesn't have an operational aircraft carrier but it certainly has the technology to build one. I know that American forces would not last a month in Russia. Russia's cold climate has always repelled any invading army because they were never accustomed to the extreme cold and had to adjust their equipment accordingly which is expensive.

America's military is resource and technology intensive. Forces need to be deployed from bases with ample supplies to be effective. The American forces are absolutely useless in guerilla warfare. The only reason that there aren't more dead American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan is because the insurgent forces have time on their side and can wait it out. The worse result for the insurgents is a stalemate and the best is obviously an American withdrawal. This is why the USA and the Pentagon want to establish over 50 permanent military bases within Iraq. They need to be absolutely certain about the security of Iraqi oil.

It'll go nuclear, nobody will win!

if it doesn't go nuclear, it all depends on which other countries/superpowers will back up whom. But then again, neither US nor Russia would go down without taking this whole world with it.
who'll win?

Well the bugs who were here before the dinosaurs, we'll be giving this earth back to them, warped in a radioactive package.

The Russian military is really quite crappy. It took them 12 years to subdue Chechnya, and that place is tiny, AND located right along Russia's border (so, no supply line problems). Many Russian soldiers are unfit conscripts who were too poor to avoid the draft, and have tuberculosis. The average Russian male drops dead around age 54. They are in sad shape.

Lol, fool. Chechnya is a guerilla war situation. We're talking conventional war here. Every large conventional army is useless against guerilla warfare.

USA didn't win Vietnam.
You don't even have to look that far back. Do you really think the USA is winning in Iraq and Afghanistan or is the enemy just waiting them out?

The US didn't BORDER Vietnam. Russia BORDERS Chechnya. That's the difference. Russia BORDERS Georgia. It should be easy to fight a war when all your supply lines are INTERNAL, but Russia couldn't even pull that off. Their military is not in good shape. Think back to the Kursk incident. Think back to the Mi-26 helicopter shootdown of 2002, when 127 Russian soldiers were killed by an early-80's 9K38 Igla missile.

Russia would gets stomped in a conventional war. Their air force would be ineffective due to shootdowns. Their air defense systems would be degraded by remote-launched strikes. Their only hope would be to either go nuclear, or try to shoot down everyone's satellites.

It would cost a lot of money and lives for US to win, but they would if there was a war with Russia, because even Russia is more experienced in wars and it would probably ask for help from China or even Japan...its economy can't hanld a massive war like that.. Russia would become even crappier than ever, and harder to recover, if ever it will, US would eventually recover slowly...

Yeah, that's makes the loss much easier to bear doesn't it?

A bunch of peasants armed with nothing more than AK-47 rifles while the USA has aircraft carriers stationed on the coast.

Supply lines was not a problem for the USA either dumbass. The USA had total control of the waters.
