We have lumber, we have gas, we have hydro power, we have huge rersources of oil, we have several deep-sea ports, we are directly across the water from Asia, the immigration will always be bringing more labour and investments into B.C., we have ski resorts, we have our own fish and wheat and fruit from the orchards of the Okanagan - what's the point of continuing to subsidize the permanently Liberal Atlantic Provinces and Ontario - and the insatiable Quebec??

No I wouldn't. I would favor threatening it the way Alaska did though.

This is the East sticking it to the west again. I would be all for it, to be rid of Quebec and Ontario is a dream come true. BC and the praires would make a fine country.

I would love to see Western Canada as a new nation.
Edmonton as the logical choice as capitol. What type of government would we want? A constitutional monarchy, republic or other? As for a name the Republic of Cascadiia if it was to be a republic. The name Alberta sounds nice for a constitutional monarchy. |

I'd probably vote for BC separation under any circumstances. And I'm originally from Ontario!

Ontarians where I lived for many years expect something for nothing as is usual. I am a Vancouver boy who has returned home after being disgusted by Ontario.I think a Republic would work quite well. Disarming the Monarchy also would be a fine thing. There day has come. This excuse for a representative of the Monarchy didn't work at all--sorry...ex separatist, Jean.
You may find that she will be given the right to thrust the knife into Stephen Harpers back.Watch This Space! |

Alberta Separatism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_separatism Alberta separatism is a movement that advocates the secession of the province of Alberta from Canada either by forming an independent nation or by creating a new federation with one or more of Canada's other three westernmost provinces. Foundations Alberta separatism arises from the belief held by some that Alberta is culturally distinct from the rest of Canada, particularly Central Canada and Eastern Canada, and from the belief that Alberta is harmed economically by providing financial support to other provinces through the federal transfer payment program. The Alberta economy has been traditionally based on ranching, and in the last half of the 20th century, been bolstered by considerable revenues from oil and gas production. Alberta has developed a political culture that is more conservative, in both economic and (to a lesser extent) social issues, than the rest of Canada. Alberta separatism takes many different forms:

Calgary MPs fear fallout in Alberta
http://www.calgaryherald.com/Business/Calg...0575/story.html ... Tory MPs warned a new coalition government would produce economic carnage in Alberta. Wild Rose Country also would be largely be left out of government (the Conservatives holding 27 of Alberta's 28 seats),which could stoke separatist fires in the Stelmach government and across the province, analysts warned. |

Alaska could no way separate from the US, about the same as Waco could not survived the FBI, and those guys were crazy. It would have never happen and there was no fear of it happening. |
