so today was a normal workday for me. did my stuff. then by 4pm, my manager came to talk to me. i was going to get laid off today and i had to pack up my stuff right now and leave. i am so pissed off and sad at the same time. i don't know what to do now. I am depressed. i have a mortgage and kids to take care of. i am afriad of the future. i don't know what to do. why do they need me to leave immediately? that is so insulting to me. i packed my box while my co-workers watched. it was so embarrasing. gosh... It is what it is Tom. I've been there before. Get up tomorrow and give it your all. Showing your former boss and co-workers they made a mistake means nothing, showing your kids how to deal with adversity means everything. What type of job did you do maybe some posters can point you in the right direction. Good luck.

i've fired many people in my day and the reasons why you must leave immediately is to give you less of a chance to destroy, steal or cause any sort of scene and to protect our confidential company info. to which you are no longer privy; why you must do it in front of your colleagues is really just dependent on your position with the employer - if your office / station is out in the open then of course everyone is going to see - in this way, it also gives the employer many witnesses in case anything happened. if your office is more tucked away, the employer would ensure that there were a witness when the termination was delivered anyway - we don't want to go to court or meet with a mediator for anything that may give the impression that you were layed off for anything but what is written on the ROE.
it's hard not to take it personally but realize that it's just a job and there are thousands of other jobs out there - don't panic, just take one positive step at a time. you'll do fine. |

DON'T KILL YOURSELF!!! That is pretty mean. I know I am guilty of being a Troll myself but you should know when to be a Troll & not. Just because I Troll MPs (like Liberals, NDP & BQ), doesn't mean they will suffer at all. Always remember to put yourself in the other person's shoes. Everything you wrote sounds like something you say to yourself to make you feel like a partial human being after you completely turn upside down a person's life. I remember they laid off many people after i left and I would laugh very hard if that old HR b* got what she deserved too, she was one of those typical mean middle-aged women, fridig, angry and mean, I wonder those HR like to hire people to get off or something. Big companies are full of those j* and w* |

This is so sad, I know how you feel, but if you can be a little patient things are going to change for the better for you. In order for something good to enter in to your life something have to leave your life and your case this job. The very thing that happening to you will happen to so many of your co-workers; they felt your pain also. Please do not feel insulted this is what the economy has come to, so many are feeling the same pain as you every day. You are not the only one going through this type of devastation of loosing their job at a moment notice. Not just me but a lot of DV’er will be praying for you. Good luck Tom please do come back and talk with us some one is always here 24/7

QUOTE Go back to school. EI & Human Resources Canada will assist you. True, you could get funding to be trained, meaning the government will pay for your training, pay you full EI and maybe even pay childcare if needed. I have a friend who does this for a living (employment counsellor). Search google for YWCA employment resource centre, or Success, or Training Innovations and also search the acronym SDEB. My friend puts together packages for people like you for upto $80,000. |

Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! Um...okay. If your boss laid you off, you are likely the least reliable out of all the other people in the to-be-laid-off list. I've also seen a ton of people not getting the job fairly in the first place, knowingly or unknowingly. But crooks are crooks. Learn how to deal with it. Your lack of confidence will only get in your way. Just be patient, but you will have to take a pay cut if you and your family want to survive. But based on my experience, there aren't a lot of intelligent people out there capable of problem solving, so...do try to challenge my statement. |

And you are already on the right track giving your problems to the world as it will provide you with the solutions. LOL. You're not getting this at all. He has kids and has to pay off mortgage. Getting a new job will not solve the problem. Employers will take advantage of the current economic crisis and will reduce salary for that particular job positions --- hoping the hungriest person will take the bait. By taking the pay-cut, the OP has to make a ton of sacrifices. He may even have to take a second job (like me) to ensure survival. |
