A Vancouver man is recovering after allegedly being punched in the face while singing Christmas carols. A suspect in Saturday's incident has been charged with assault and Vancouver police are trying to determine if the attack constitutes a hate crime. "We were just singing Christmas carols," he said. "[He] said you ###! Screaming and yelling and punched me in the face a few times and my friend got on phone and called police." Twenty-one-year-old Christopher Clifford Mercier of Prince George was arrested a few blocks away and charged with assault. He is due to appear in court December 15th. "This assault is being followed up by our officer that investigates hates crimes," said Cst. Fanning. Why don't you morons from Surrey or Prince George or Punjab or wherever you come from just stay home? You aren't welcome here. Get the fcuk out and stay out of our city. |

That's something I never understood. Why is it more of a crime to punch somebody who is a member of a minority/special interest group than it is to punch an everyday person?
Are they implying that said person has more rights than I, and deserves to be protected more? Doesn't make sense to me. |

No. Hate crime legislation is intended to ensure that people like you are punished for attacking other people for no other reason than their race, gender, sexual orientation etc. Enhanced sentencing for hate crimes are on the books in all western nations, including Canada and the US. New York State made quite a succinct statement of the reasons for the legislation when it brought it into effect in 2000: "The New York State Legislature found that: Hate crimes do more than threaten the safety and welfare of all citizens. They inflict on victims incalculable physical and emotional damage and tear at the very fabric of free society. Crimes motivated by invidious hatred toward particular groups not only harm individual victims but send a powerful message of intolerance and discrimination to all members of the group to which the victim belongs. Hate crimes can and do intimidate and disrupt entire communities and vitiate the civility that is essential to healthy democratic processes. In a democratic society, citizens cannot be required to approve of the beliefs and practices of others, but must never commit criminal acts on account of them. Current law does not adequately recognize the harm to public order and individual safety that hate crimes cause. Therefore, our laws must be strengthened to provide clear recognition of the gravity of hate crimes and the compelling importance of preventing their recurrence. Accordingly, the legislature finds and declares that hate crimes should be prosecuted and punished with appropriate severity." |

In other words GB, hate crime legislation protects society from hate mongers like you.
I do understand and sympathize with your dark mood these days though. It must be difficult for you with Dems running the US and Harper and the cons in the Canadian toilet. Have a nice day. |

In other words GB, hate crime legislation protects society from hate mongers like you. How exactly am I a hate monger now? I just believe that people should be people and not have 157 labels attached defining which laws are applicable to them. I do understand and sympathize with your dark mood these days though. It must be difficult for you with Dems running the US and Harper and the cons in the Canadian toilet. Had I voted, I would have voted Liberal. But hey, whatever helps you sleep at night. Oh and the Dem's beat the Repub's all hale. Well, except for Michael Moore, he should shut up. Have a nice day. I will. PS, it's people like you that make people like Ann Coulter make sense. Scary thought. She's out there. |

That's a bit rich when as$holes who hate gay people come to downtown Vancouver with no other reason than the specific intent to assault and/or kill them. But you just keep on defending their freedom to do so. That's what makes you a hate monger. This post has been edited by Gerb: Dec 2 2008, 12:38 AM |

And where do you come up with this remarkable information? But you just keep on defending their freedom to do so. By no means am I doing so. I'm saying that people are people, and regulations should apply to people equally. That does not defend criminals in anyway. That what makes you a hate monger. Well whatever helps you sleep at night. And where do you come up with this remarkable information? Well other than the public record, you could look in newspapers, watch tv news, or just generally pay attention. - Surrey teenagers chase gay man through West End calling him a ###### and pelting him with eggs purchased on Davie Street. - Surrey man assaults and breaks jaw of gay man while screaming you f*cking ###### on Davie Street because he was holding hands with his boyfriend. - Prince George man assaults gay man while screaming shut up you f*cking ###### on Burrard Street because the gay man was singing a Christmas carol in front of the Christmas Light display at Saint Paul's hospital. - Surrey teenagers beat to death unarmed and naked Aaron Webber in Stanley Park. Shall I go on? I am curious why you defend this behaviour. Do you gay bash as well? |

So you've invented this story that these people go downtown specifically to beat up gay people? What about all those malls, restaurants & pubs? They don't go their, no strichtly gay hunting. Shall I go on? No I'm quite convinced. That you're outside your mind. I am curious why you defend this behaviour. How precisely am I defending it? This is getting interesting.. Do you gay bash as well? Well if referring to homosexual people as people rather than gay is gay bashing, then shucks, I guess I'm guilty. On a side note, I don't imagine you have many gay friends. Scenario; Goat Boy© meets a gay person - "Hi how's it going? My names Goat Boy©, it's a pleasure to meet you." Gerb meets a gay person - "Oh my god you're gay, we have to put you on an endangered species list! Oh is their anything I can do to make you more comfortable?" See all of my gay friends I've had this discussion with, they just want to be people, not gays. People like you actually irritate them. But hey, just saying. Think about it. Doesn't make sense to me. its not about the punching. firstly, its wrong to punch anyone. secondly, if you are stupid enough to punch someone because you don't like a certain atrribute about them that they cannot change, you are a major idiot and deserve to get forcibly butt-f*cked twice as much in the showers in prison as a normal person. |

Aggressive homophobic brutes are ultimately turned gay in prison, having been butt-fuked multiple times by other gay inmates.
All criminals are gay. |

A guy I used to work with was a dark.ie from surrey and he indicated it was a regular thing for his buds to come to the west end to beat up f.ags when he was in high school. So Surrey breeds such stuff.
