I agree. Christmas goes on for way too long, and has lost its contemplative and spiritual nature. I've "right-sized" Christmas by cutting back on aspects of it that I do not enjoy. I can understand it up to a point if you have children, but....
For adults - don't feel like putting up a tree - don't. Scale back gifts to friends and adult relatives. Set some time aside for yourself. Even if you are not particularly religious, enjoy some music or simply the stillness of a winters night. In the words of some American First Lady - Just say NO to a super sized holiday.

Dear Bomber, would you accompany me though on a wintry December evening with friends as we go carolling in Old Town Alexandria (VA) and stop at some of the homes for some hot chocolate or eggnog?

Sweetie - If I sang in public, I'd be deported, but I'll be delighted to go along to provide errrr....moral support. Does Alexandria have a large Scottish population? Looks very nice.

Bomber, okay, you may sing to me in private then. Also, your body heat will provide me all that I need on a wintry evening walk around town. [smile] Yes, Alexandria has a large Scottish population.

It is better than chopping down a live tree to be displayed in your living room for a couple weeks and then chipped.
