BC Hockey allows religious exemption on new helmet policy

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Minor hockey coaches in BC must now wear a helmet during on-ice activities, unless they wear turbans or other religious headgear.

BC Hockey has changed its new mandatory helmet policy for coaches to allow exemptions due to religious observances, after a challenge from a Sikh minor hockey coach in Surrey.

The policy requires all minor hockey coaches to wear CSA approved helmets during any on-ice activities.

The policy, which took effect Monday, was brought forward with the safety of coaches in mind, since several have been injured in recent years in on-ice incidents, including the death of a Strathmore, Alberta coach at the end of October.

He should have to sign a waiver deferring all medical costs from the government.

Exactly. It wouldn't hurt if his "religion" could be a little flexible. How about a cloth cover the head instead of a mile of it? It'll still be covered and a helmet could fit over it.

Another fine example of immigrants making demands on Canadians.

Cults do strange things to people.

The Sikhs have brought us;
-Swords at elementary school.
-No more need for motorcycle helmets or hardhats and now hockey helmets.
-No more need for government officials to be in uniform.

They should make helmets big enough to fit the turbans as well. That way, they can still wear their turban and a helmet on top.

Safety first!

I was under the impression, with the hard hat thing (hard hats fit over turbans) that their was also an issue with the turban not being on the top?
I mean seriously, what sort of people sit around and make this stuff up, these religious rules? I figured out years ago why Muslim extremists are so angry...they can't have have sex/masterbate/eat bacon. What guy wouldn't be pissed if deprived of all that. We should be bombing them with penthouses, not TNT.

I would say poverty and lack of basic education allows cults to hijack peoples minds, and lead them on violent delusions on the ever growing pursuit of power. False gods have nothing to do with it.

If Christian children were taught the violent portions of the bible at such a young age with such fanaticism, they would be no different. Islam is in the spotlight at this point, does't necessarily make them any more guilty. Christianity was no different than modern Islam 150 years ago. Perhaps even as little as 100.

Errmmm, no. This statement reflects an extremely superficial grasp of the conflict that was going on in Ireland.

I hardly tkink that compares to whats going on today ,with the random beheading & driving airplanes into skyscrapers .the fact they are brainwashing their kids to hate everyone who is'nt like them the whole protestant/catholic thing flies in the face of faith in that ,god wants unity of all believers

Then why do we have 600,000 cults? And how do you know what God wants? Did he call you on his day off?

Currently those supposed turbans are kevlar lined and claimed to be bullet proof so technically those are helmets on their heads.
