This just warms my heart. This is what happens when you use cheap labour instead of employing Canadians.
Foreign workers on Canada Line win human rights settlement Wednesday, December 03 - 01:17:56 PM Connie Thiessen VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Temporary foreign workers on the Canada Line project have won a multi-million dollar settlement in a BC Human Rights Tribunal ruling. The tribunal agreed that SELI Canada and SNC Lavalin discriminated against the Latin American employees in their salary, accomodation, meals and expenses--compared to other workers. Each worker has been awarded the difference in pay and expenses and $10,000 each for injury to their dignity. |

If you can get away with exploitation as an employer, you're rewaded with profits. They just got careless and this practice got full exposure in the Canadian media. Next time these companies will be more careful with the legal fine print before hiring new slaves ...oooops, wokers. |
