Hi ladies, I'm looking to get my nails done. Possibly Gel nails but am unable to locate a nail place that charges under $60 for Gel. (I'm located in Metrotown). Are there any places in Downtown Vancouver or Burnaby(Metrotown) area that are reasonably priced and do a great job?=)
Thanks=)

DO NOT GO TO ROYAL NAILS ON NORTH ROAD!
They are horrible... after they started doing my gels I started looking around and was scared I was going to catch fungus just by looking at the things.. it was gross.... the next day one broke.. went back in to get it fixed... they wouldn't fix it that day... finally got them to fix it... next day two more broke... didn't even bother going in to get them fixed I just took them all off. What a rip off.

That's terrible. Talk about crappy customer service and cheap supplies. Sorry you had to go through that.

I've had really good experience with Crystal Nails in New Westminster but the weird thing is they have the same owner as the horrible place. I first had my nails done at Crystal Nails for a wedding in Hawaii.. told my sister (who lives in Hawaii) and she was like NOO you should have gotten acrylic because it's so humid here that gel nails never stay nice (she is a spa director there so she would know haha).. anyways.. went for the wedding.. went in the ocean.. went in a pool... had many fumbling intoxicated nights and my nails didn't chip or anything... I would suggest going there.. I think it's $55... but it's worth it!

What you really should do is go to a beauty school, one that has student nail techs, estheticians. Ask for a senior student to do your nails and HOLY CHEAP!! Like $15 for a set of acrylics...$17 pedicures, waxing, facials, massage too. It's all overlooked by totally skilled instructors, and they will correct anything you aren't happy with. -May take a little longer than usual though.
Look up beauty schools in yellowpages..

Don't go to professionail anywhere (they have a few stores around Lower Mainland) they are cheap but offer poor service and bad quality!!1 My sugesstion would be to pay more money but go to a good, hygienic and professional salon. At all the cheap places everyone is in a hurry to get more done so you don't even know if they santitize their equipment properly. At the salon mentioned above, the lady hurt my cuticles with the clippers and they started to bleed. Did she sanitize them before usage? I don't know, she said she did but judging by the speedy service, one can never be too sure!!! So choose a place that looks clean and has an esthetician that takes his time; trust me I have heard some horor stories about fake/real nale manicures!!!

Hi there, I am a nail tech located in Surrey, and I use a product called "Envoque". It is a VERY durable gel, and my prices are EXTREMELY resonable because I work out of my home. My email is tana_poitras@hotmail.com if you are interested, please feel free to email me, and I can give you my price list! Thanks, Good Luck, Tana

Fake nails are exactly that. Fake. They look tacky.....and.....they're so unhygienic. I am a biology student and we swabbed the nails of people with fake nails. They're gross. You should have seen what we grew on the agar - far more than people with natural nails. What's wrong with nicely filed nails and a coat of clear polish?

I was only considering getting them done because at the time, my nails were short and not looking that great and I had an event coming up. It has been around 5 or 6 years since I have had fake nails. I don't like them because of the commitment to them, the cost, and, I just prefer to be natural.. same reason I don't dye my hair (Commitment , money, and damaging )

Help! Ever Since my "Nail Goddess" moved out of Vancouver, I've been trying to find an accomplished nail technician. I've tried many - went the chop shop route - got a fungus immediately - got chicklet nails from another - one chopped all my real nails off and put huge tips on - told me it was for the best - and the one I have now goes from gel to acrylic to both. They're either way too thick or so thin they chip off instantly. Is there anyone out there at a reasonable price that knows how to do either gel or acrylic?

Similarly looking for someone to do gel infills .. downtown near the Library would be ideal .. anyone know of someone willing to come to the office? Could definitely make it worth someone's while if they are good!
Understand about the previous poster's suggestion for clear polish and a nice filing job but after a year of chemo my nails are a mess and I can't stand the thought of looking ill while they grow back, |

I took a "previous posts" suggestion & went out of my way to Star Nails on West Blvrd. They did Clear Gel, French Manicure for $55 + tax. French Pedicure was $36 I think.... can't quite remember. They did an amazing job!!!! My nails look great - time for a fill (nearing 3 weeks) and almost no tell tale signs of where the gel begins 1/4 of the way up my nailbed. I think her name was Rosie, she's a pro!!! But they had LOTS of staff.... very busy with off the street clients - I booked an appointment, but don't think you have to.

Pro Nails Academy is a school and is very reasonably priced. Just don't go on Monday or Tuesday when they have specials and the place is packed. It's on Broadway near Willow.

My boyfriend saw a news story on ABC or something where a girl went to get pedicures at a place that had those water jet bins and she got a terrible disease because the place didn't clean their equipment (specifically that kind of machine) properly and now it looks like she has splotchy, peeling, nasty skin FOREVER. She can't wear shorts or skirts and do some activities. Totally freaked me out. Really scared of those water jets. I went to Aveda at Metro and they use stainless steel bowls. |

If you're looking for a place to hang out and get your nails done at the same time, you should check out Element Spa for Nails. It's located in Yaletown on Homer and Davie, beside the Opus Salon. They just opened up about 2 months ago, and they offer all types of services. One thing I like about this place is the staff. They're very friendly, courteous and outgoing. They make you feel like you've known them for years. Also they have these great massage chairs that you sit in to get your pedicures done. I've never seen anything like this anywhere else, not even in those high-end spas. One thing that keeps me coming back to this place the care you receive from them. They really know how to take care of all your problems and help you relax and feel at ease.
They do everything from Gel to Waxing, and at very decent prices. If anyone's interested you should check out their website. www.elementspafornails.com |

I've been to the Star Nails salon on West Boulevard for a pedicure which was amazing and lasted for one month. However, for my gel nails I go to another "Nails" salon on 10th avenue in West Point Grey which is a newer salon, brand new equipment and the tech I have there is amazing. No one can believe they only charge $50 for a set of gel nails! |
