On April 8^th, 2008, the Canadian Minister of Health introduced Bill C-51 into the House of Commons. This Bill proposes significant changes to the current Food and Drugs Act that will have wide-ranging negative implications for Canadians.

· Remove democratic oversight, bypassing elected officials to vote in laws and allow bureaucrats to adopt laws from other countries without our consent.

· Remove 70% of Natural Health Products from Canadians and many others will be available by prescription only.

· Restrict research and development of safe natural alternatives in favor of high risk drugs.

· Punish Canadians with little or no opportunity for protection or recourse for simply speaking about or giving a natural product without the approval of government. More than 70% of people in Canada use a Natural Health Product. The new law goes so far as to warrant action against a person who would give another person an “unapproved” amount of garlic on the recommendation that it would improve that person’s health.

· Inspectors will take your property at their discretion

· Inspectors will dispose of your property at will

· Inspectors will not reimburse you for your losses

· Inspectors will be empowered to store your property indefinitely

· Inspectors will levy fines of up to $5,000,000.00 and/or seek 2 years in jail per incident

In 2003 Health Canada launched an attack on a group of mentally ill patients and the company who supported them naturally. They seized shipments of a safe natural therapy required by the patients and stormed the support center with 17 armed officers and agents. The company (Truehope) reported that they lost contact with more than 300 of their Canadian participants. The Canadian Mental Health Association told of suicides as a result of government action.



Health Canada then charged the not for profit company, burdening them with heavy legal costs. Truehope was found innocent by necessity and instructed by the judge to continue under legal and moral responsibility. Although the agents admitted knowing they were injuring people through their actions, they stated under oath they care only about policy and directive. And what happened to the more than 300 mentally ill Canadians that became unreachable? In the months and years following, reports of hospitalizations and suicides during the seizures have surfaced. No Health Canada agent has ever been charged.

As best as I can tell, the government is going to now have the ability to clamp down on people selling dangerous items masked as harmless herbs. Depending on your view of the government, this will either be used responsibly, or they will start busting children for giving their friends garlic in the start of the new Nazi regime.

In so far as Bill C-51 virtually all Food Supplements, Vitamins, any kind of Health Benefiting Product (Vitamins, Herbs, Protien / Amino Acid Powders, etc...) will not be allowed to be sold. So if for some reason your diet is deficient in some way you will be able to merely go to London Drugs or a Health Food Store and just pick up some vitamins to ensure you get what you need to lead a healthy life.

Soon your only choice will be genetically engineered nutritionally deficient food being your only choice....

Where can I sign a petition against %$@#!tards who are against bill C-51?

Under CURRENT NHPD regulations, all natural health products must be reviewed by and either approved or denied, by their scientists and doctors. Upon submission for a product license, a wealth of scientific studies and trials must also be provided. Without this info the product will be denied a license. Also, any and all adverse effects MUST be reported to Health Canada. The NHPD can take action against companies selling products that do not have a product license, or, because of the current backlog in processing these licenses, at least have a submission in queue.

So now I'm wondering why there is even a Bill C-51. It's redundant as far as controlling and policing natural health products. You have to wonder about the motivation and intent behind bill C-51.

So as far as efficacy, this bill appears to do little more than protect the financial interests of big pharma.

What the bill does is actually give the government the ability to excercise it's judgement in order to stop people who are using the underground market to sell dangerous items under the various loopholes currently in Canadian law.

I agree, but I believe the NHPD should actually try using they're current enforcement policies, which they are not, before deciding that we need more laws. If they can't even enforce current regulations, what difference will this bill really make, other than provide a loophole for abuse?

Again, you have to wonder the motivation behind the bill, when they cannot even say if the current enforcement policies work or not, because they haven't even tried.

Under the current policies, the government can only really go after those people that go through the system. If someone simply doesn't bother to register and doesn't claim all the money they make on the underground market, currently the government has very limited power to go after them. This helps go after those people

There are no vaccines or avoidences for either HIV or malaria. In fact despite claims there are no cures for either.
