Thanks

I recently did a lot of research on Consumer Reports and elsewhere and came to the conclusion that the Mazda 3 is an outstanding vehicle. Both the sedan and hatchback got rave reviews all over. It's not surprising, as the 3 is basically just an improved and updated version of the Protegee, which is an excellent, reliable vehicle.

Great handling, good fuel efficiency, excellent reliability. What's not to like??

I'm thinking about getting the hatchback version of the 3. It's exactly what I'm looking for, but the Protegee is more in my price range. Were you looking at the hatch or the sedan? I had considered the Scion XA, mostly because of the great mileage, but the engine is a bit on the weak side. The Mazda 3/Protegee, from all I've heard, has plenty of juice.

I really dont like Mazda.  It's something about their rotary engine... they don't last too long and have problems (minor) pretty frequently.

If you are considering the Mazda 3...you HAVE TO consider the Corolla XRS.
It has ALOT more juice than the 3. 170hp @ a whooping 7800rpm 6 speed manual, and cheap too...the engine is assembled, tuned by YAMAHA MOTOR SPORTS. in Japan.
Have a test drive you will love it.

Go to www.mazda.ca.  You can 'build' your own car with all the extras you want

I have a GX.  Standard with A/C and convenience package.  That was about $ 21,000 including freight and taxes.  A GS is about
$ 1,500 more.

Check out their site....

Mazda3 are great cars. Everything except for the possibility of being able to open the locked car door with a hard kick to the upper impact beam just under the door handle. Happened to me last night now all my stuff has been stolen. i.e. sub, amp, hi-lo converter, cd book full of cd's. Anyone else had this problem?

I'm loving my mazda 3 thus far. I had it over a month now. One funny thing I noticed is that the main two types of people mostly driving it are younger guys in their 20s-30s (I'm in this group), or women of various ages. Of course I did see middle aged and old men driving it, but i does seem to attract the 2 groups I mentioned above.

Quick question. I recently bought a Mazda 6 Sport and have to say - the fuel efficiency sucks! Granted I travel to work from downtown to Burnaby so high traffic, and I encounter a couple of hilly roads on the way but still. The most I get is 465 km in 60 liters. That averages out to be close to 13 ltr/100 km - way off spec, which I think was 9.smth. For any other Mazda owners out there, do you encounter a similar problem?

V6 or I4?  The V6 is rated at 12L/100km which is right on to what you are getting.
There is no way you will get very close to the estimates.

DONT GET A MAZDA3!!  It's the target of thieves right now!!

Besides, their reliability stinks according to JD Powers:

It's V4, that's the most frustrating part. I knew it would be off, but we are talking close to 4ltr/100 km, that's more than 30% over the estimate. Mazda dealer said everything is fine, but I feel like it's a rip off and this Japanese car is doing worse than American one.

I drive an '07 mazda 3 and based on the trip computer the gas milege is really good on highways or city strets without a lot of traffic lights. However with a lot of stopping and stepping on the gas pedal, the mileage does kinda suck. I know that's obvious stuff but the trip computer helps you really keep track of the mileage because when I'm on the highway, the estimated number of km's left before my next refill actually increases. I'd say overall I do get the same mileage as you. I have a 2.3 L engine as mine is the GT edition.

Mazda Canada will fix the Mazda 3 Door lock problem..
I get  361 Km per tank of gas, but that's not a concern for me.

If you guys are really after fuel savings don't buy cars with engines bigger than a 1.7 litre.

I am from Chicago, and recently purchased a 2007 Mazda 3.  I only get 21-22 mpg on my 2.3 liter engine with mostly highway and suburban driving.  My sticker says that I should get 25 miles per gallon in the city/ and 31 miles per gallon on the highway.  I have an automatic.  Is this normal?  Also for those of you who have an automatic trans: When your foot is on the break and you change gears from park to drive or park to reverse, do you hear a squeaky grind sound?  It almost sounds like when you slightly take your foot off of a wet brake petal.

If thinking about buying a Mazda 3, consider this:

check out the article in the North Shore news, April 6, 2007, page 9:

Mazda 3 are easily broken into.  If you apply enough force to the right spot on the driver door, the locks on the Mazda 3 unlock, and according to some reports, the alarm disarms as well.

Beware

Am interested in what Mazda Canada's response was to those who have been victimized by break-ins/thefts via vunerable door? My son's new Maxda 3 has been targeted 3 times in 2 weeks in Calgary. Lost valuable items 1st time but even worse is the damage to door not to mention sense of insecurity & sleepless nights.I feel Mazda should treat this customer concern by notifying all owners as they would in a recall matter. Does anyone agree?
