I also got hosed by Harvest Capital. I sent a money order for $30 back in Aug/04, after a few months I sent a few emails which they didn't reply to. I did get a call back after I looked up their 800# which has since been disconnected and was assured I would get the card in a few wks. A few months later I left them a very brutal voice mail and got a call back from the same person some guy named Jeffrey and this son of a bitch comes off sincere as hell, very smooth. I must've spoken to him for ten minutes and he assured me that it was just an error and that they had been swamped with orders and that it was on the way.  Naturally I never got the card. I know most likely I won't get the money back but I would like to see them get theirs. I did a bit of searching and spoke to the mall administration for their Ontatrio address they said they had no other contact info and that numerous people have been calling for them and that they would have their mailing address at one of two locations in the mall. I looked up their Houston address and spoke to a guy where they were having their mail forwarded and he said the Houston police were just there yesterday July 5 and that they'd been around months ago as well and were under investigation. Apparently their 800# may have been routed through California but who knows. I even called the company that hosts their site (looked up through whois.ca) and they had no other contact info for them but maybe if enough people call and email them we can temporarily shut down the site so no one else will lose their money.

Good luck everybody

Go to http://www.creditwizard.ca/ to file one app to multiple banks and credit card companies, I'm sure you will get 1 reputable card with no security deposit required.

Choises for a prepaid credit card are:

Western Union : http://www.westernun...aid_credit_card

West Edmonton Mall VISA Card: http://www.westernun...aid_credit_card issued by Citizens Bank of Canada.

There are a lot of other choices, but defenitelly Harvest Capital is not one of them, sorry guys :(

eply to Harvest Capital prepaid mastercard.......

I was browsing different websites who offered prepaid mastercards, and I came across HC. I sent them a money order $39.00 in Mid August, its now Oct 17 and I received nothing, when I emailed their customer service i never got a reply, its a good thing i never gave them my sin number. Its hard for consumers to trust these joe blow companies, i wish visa and mastercard themselves would offer prepaid credit cards to canadian residents.

Try www.mycard.ca prepaid mastercard. They are $39.95 which includes a $10 load. They cost $5.95 a month to maintain. That's it.

They are just starting to set up distributors this month (Oct 2005) in Toronto and will be in Vancouver in next few weeks.

I have a prepaid Visa from overseas -- I LOVE it...It's perfect for people like me who don't quite realize how much they spend.  At least this way it keeps me somewhat in control! Posted Image

My little sister's first card came in the mail not that long ago -- a Canadian Tire Options MasterCard.  I'm assuming the interest is atrocious, but as long as you're employed, you're pretty much approved.

It's not like you'd keep it long, anyways -- use it every now and then (and pay it off right away), then apply elsewhere.

before you guys apply for credit cards..have you guys seen your own credit bureau file...you can get it free if you mail for it. http://www.equifax.com/EFX_Canada/ here's the website.. check out the consumer information centre then frequently asked questions..there's lots of good info there. Also if you do get a credit card...make sure you pay in full (even if the balance is small) by the due date when you get the bill or not. It's the responsibility of the consumer to make sure they make the payment on time. use the credit card as a replacement of cash..not as a fast loan!!! If you default on it the credit history will be there for 6 yrs, so dont miss any payments....also if you get one credit card ie:visa or m/c dont get anymore till you've used it for a year so you build your credit history, the more credit cards you have the lower the risk/beacon score.
PS..keep your balances low so you can manage it better

When applying for prepaid CC at Van City - if you've had a bankruptcy in last 7 years -ask them upfront what deposit will be needed. Had talked to them on phone, asked all the questions I could think of - made an appointment with loan officeer - went there, filled out the application form - she asked mose questions, on & on - then I told her had a bankruptcy a few years ago, which is why my credit rating is poor.
Then she tells me - "oh, if you have a bankruptcy, you have to put DOUBLE the deposit, before we can give you a credit card ! "
Was really pissed that that wasn't mentioned before I went through all that.
They are a great institution, no worries, but this particular person just didn't disclose all the requirements.

All prepaid cards are a scam.i applied for a gift card  for my daughter from harvest capitol
and got taken for $150  .No problem, should have did some research.
Paid  $40 for a MyCard Mastercard with my American Express card, applied on line with my receipt .MyCard emailed back days later requesting explicit identification, passport, paystub etc ,disclaimer on bottom reads,if no reply is made in 21 days blah bblah .Faxed pay stub, days later received email from MyCard need further proof. Now ,I am having fun.Birth Certificate? needs to be the original, this will take 60 days so bye bye before the 21 day expire limit after application.
Four weeks later and unable to meet  the identification criteria, short of providing my S.I.N number,no luck.I owe and live in the same house for 16 years, payed income tax for 23 years, establihed near perfect credit for over 20 years, payed off numerous car loans on time, respected my lines of credit, yet cant get a MyCard.

Hi Troy,

Sorry to hear that,  I dont' know much about MyCard but I do know that the Prepayedge Prepaid MasterCard  card is deffinately not a scam.  I have one and I didn't have to provide any sort of identification at all,  I also know of quite of other people that have the same card and they all say it fantastic.  I went to www.tns-prepaid.net and I downloaded an application and sent it in and got my card 10 business days later.  If you don't have access to the internet you could always call them and they will fax or mail you an application to send in with a money order if you have any questions please call 1-888-236-4354 ext 229 and they will be glad to talk with you.

I've been trying to get a credit card for awhile and now it's giving me stress...

after I found out about prepaid cc, I've been doing some research about it and now I totally gave up on getting cc. Posted Image

prepaid cc has so many fees to pay on every action you do on card.
also, not many prepaid cc are available in Canada yet..
most of them on internet are US sites..

and I don't have extra $1000 cash around for deposit to get cc from bank.

aaahhhh... I guess I'll just have to wait another a few years til I get raise at work or prepaid fees go down...  /sniff ....

I got a Mastercard from my local store...It was one of those MyCards and the aplication was easy..they dont ask for any other details other then birth date and address to send the card to. Not sure why it could be a scam...I think its a great way to get a credit card.
