The province is investigating how some Calgary Flames players and their families received the swine flu vaccine last week at a special clinic with the help of Alberta Health Services.

"I can't speculate on what happened, but we will have a fuller report very shortly," Premier Ed Stelmach said Tuesday.

The NHL team and its medical staff felt players should get the shots to protect against the H1N1 virus because of the risks associated with frequent physical contact with each other and other teams, as well as their frequent travel, said Flames president Ken King.

Hey the best way to beat the queue is go to Hawaii if you can afford it like a wealthy hockey player. There is no large rise of H1N1 infection in Hawaii and no long line ups in Hawaii for H1N1 vaccine.

$18 at a Walgreens in Oahu, Hawaii and you are done.

aha trip to Hawaii And get your vaccine.

Those hockey players probably worth millions dollars, besides you wouldn't want to see them sniffing and coughing around when there are thousands audience anyway.

Health official fired over Flames flu shots

By THE CANADIAN PRESS
Wed. Nov 4 - 5:48 PM

EDMONTON — Alberta Health Services says it has fired a senior staff member over the Calgary Flames swine flu vaccine controversy. The board, which reports directly to the Alberta government, won't name who has been dismissed, but says it was wrong to give the hockey players and their families preferential treatment.

Members of the Calgary Flames NHL team were given swine flu shots at a special clinic last Friday as thousands of people waited in line for the vaccine or were turned away.

The revelation angered many people who have criticized Alberta's swine flu vaccine rollout, which was plagued by long lineups before it was shut down Saturday.

Ken Hughes, the board's chairman, says an investigation continues and could lead to further disciplinary action against other staff.

Hughes says people should receive health services based on medical priority
