Girl is going away to South America for one month - Buenos Aires, Lima and Macchu Picchu

I really need to get her an awesome gift before she goes (apparently I haven't been expressive enough of my interest in our relationship)

So it can't be flowers. Feels a little lame asking the DV forum but I'm hitting a wall. All suggestions are welcome. Progressive chic (32) into healthy living, music, travel, philanthropy, etc...

thx !

Get her something for the flight.

Does she have a mp3 player?
Does she need any new luggage?

Or if that's too expensive...some good books to read.

Not too expensive. She just took me to Maui for two weeks to a house on the ocean with a private beach. So a couple hundred bucks is the least I can spend. She has an ipod and luggage already.

Thx for the suggestions.

Of these replies, I'd go with either the digicam or the ipod...

she'd love both unless she already owns them.

Sounds like shes after a gift that shows how much you 'know' her. Something thoughtful is better than something expensive and garish in that situ....

Good call. She has so much stuff already (including the digicam), so I'm looking for a unique gift.

You could try and find her some good travel books.
I'm sure there's a few unique ones on South America.
The kind of books that go outside the norm and don't talk about regular tourist places.
Before I left for London my old roomie gave me a great book on unique places in London. It was written by artists. I really love that book.

something homemade, and also a homemade card. It will show her that you really care. Food for thought.

Thanks everyone.

I think the unique travel books idea and a home-made card are my top choices so far.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Blessings

Does she speak other languages? If not get her one of those point it books. Theyre brilliant, has a picture of everything in it so if you cant speak the language you can just point at it and get by with sign language.

Simple but thoughtful. Favourite book? Travel journal?

Ok time to pull out the big guns here and though it sounds a little gay she will love it. If you have lots of pictures of her and you together, plus you by yourself then put a little book together. The pictures in the book with little stories about how cool that time was or what you were thinking about at that time. Like a story book about you and her from then to now, trust me it's some work but she will really really like it. Now I think my manhood is still in tact I need to go to the gym and throw some weight around.

Dude ! That's brilliant ! Though I won't be able to prepare that before Wednesday morning (ordering photos and all), that can be sitting on her bed waiting for her upon her return. For now I'll get the books and make the card.

You are a man...a gentleman at that.

hats off to you

My brother did that for his girlfriend. He put together a black scrapbook with pictures and wrote in it with a silver pen. She still gets all gushy when she talks about it.

Personally, I wouldn't get her anything materialistic. I'd take her to dinner and tell her how much you'll miss her and then do the same when she gets back.

Her saying you aren't expressive enough sounds like she's looking for you to buy her things. I had an ex go overseas for a vacation and after not seeing her for 3 weeks I reazliaed I didn't want to be with her anymore.

That might not be the case with you, but there is no need to buy things as an expression of affection. Any woman who thinks there is is a gold digger.

OP, how about a gift certificate for a fancy spa down there? That's take care of it and she'll love it.

Make sure you have plenty of reserve cash left over to wine, dine and seduce other women in the time that your girl's away. Just make sure you clean up your place and have it looking exactly the same as when she left so that she won't suspect anything. Cheers.

I don't actually know what they are. lol
They broke up while she was pregnant. The baby is now 3 months old and they're always together...yet they both claim they're just friends. But they kiss...lord knows what else...I don't want to know.
