Not that I have anything against Chinese people or anything but a lot of so-called goods that are manufactured in China is either unsafe or so cheaply made that they break so easily, even when used properly.

Just about every item I see on the store shelves has a shiny golden label saying "Made in China" and to no surprise, it's the first thing to break when using the item.

Not too long ago, there was the issue with the poisoned cat and dog food, and over the Christmas break, many toys were recalled because they either had lead, or they broke so easily in such a way that they became dangerous, or even worse was the toy with beads that became like the daterape drug when swallowed.

What next?

But really, I've bought several things recently only to take it back and have it exchanged so it too breaks later just as the warrenty runs out, and I am getting sick of it!

China = cheap goods. Unfortunately many things are exclusively made in China, so it's not always posible to buy a product made elsewhere. But! If I see a similar item made in Canada, U.S.A. or Western Europe, I will pay the difference and buy that product instead... I am almost guaranteed better quality, and I don't mind paying extra for it.

There was an article in a mag a while ago about a woman who tried to give up Chinese-made goods for a year. The bottom line - unless you have a doctor's level of disposable income, it's not likely to happen. Your $20 Wal-Mart coffee maker is replaced with a $2-300 Italian version. Your $5 Zellers toy becomes a $20-30 Canadian one. Your $20 shirt is replaced with a $1-200 American one.

The cost of manufacturing here is high, and it's increasing. The average person with an average income would not be able to buy most things were they not made in China.

I saw a bumperstick the other day, it says "Unemployed, buy Foreign".

I don't totally agree that we can't make things here at competive prices. After all, before Big Business sold-out and went to china (and Other Foreign Countries) we use to buy within our continents and some foreign (Europe) imports. Everybody from the average job blow to the Rockefellers enjoy decent quality goods. The stuff to day may have: electronic controls, timers and built-in I-Pod docks but the quality is suspect. Definately, the life span. I know people who have old stuff that they wouldn't give-up for all the tea in china LOL Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image!

The Chinese don't care about their own people what makes people think they'll care about the rest of the world? Sadly, they're just killing everyone off slowly but surely. I read it in the papers and it was also posted here a while back that Canada is considering importing dead poultry from China to Canada because it'll be still cheaper for the distributors to do it that way and still earn a higher profit. The world is full of greed and nothing else seems to matter.

Not so long ago it was Made in Japan that was thought of as junk.
Now Made in Japan is a sign of quality.
I'm sure China will make that transition in the near future.

Yes, that's true. 20/20 or Dateline did a report on counterfit drugs/meds originiating from China. Unless you broke apart the medication and had it professionally analysed, you would never know you were consuming particular board, chalk, and all sorts of other nasty things. It's people like you that fooled, for the rest of us, we know what's really going on.

Even when they were making cheap junk for export to get their economy going after the war? Gimme a break. It's business you morons. The world loves inexpensive goods from China, the world is addicted to inexpensive goods from China. I don't see anyone complaining about electronic goods from China, they work perfectly and the finished products look great. Chinese made clothing sold in the GAP and other chains seems pretty ok quality wise. What are you people talking about? If the inexpensive product falls apart buy a more expensive, better quality one next time. Your cheap, and you blame that on the Chinese. Morons.

What a great honour it was to have the psychopathic Japanese take over most of Asia in the 30s and 40s. Thank you! Thank you for slaughtering 100s of thousands of innocent people, millions perhaps! What an honourable thing that was. Remember Nanjing! You pigs!

Weren't the recalled china toys Matell toys? Matell = North American company and they should have put more time and money into sending Matell employees to do quality checks. I really doubt old chinese ladies are gossiping to each other saying "omg! lets poison all the weathly north americans by putting lead in their toys!"

Also, recalled pet food was mostly the cheap pet foods: iams, wiskas, president's choice, etc. if you love your pet you wouldnt feed it cheap food. its just as bad as feeding your children mcdonalds everyday.

also bad news for everyone complaining in this thread, but isnt the chinese economy slowly rising up the ladder? Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! just a matter of time before no 1!!! haha

Dude, even name brand products which were once good names are breaking after a few days of normal use, because they do lack quality controle.

A few months ago people in here were complaining about compact fluorescent lights which at one time were a well made product, but now even names like Sylvania, and GE are busting in less than a week and guess where they are made??? Any ideas??? I can give u a hint... You'll see that shiny gold sticker stuck on the back of it.

About the cat and dog food. Iams is not a cheap product.

I've even bought an RC car and ended up taking it back in about a month and a half, and getting another one only to have it break down the other day just as the warenty runs out. Guess where it is made? Yeah, you guess it, CHINA!

The problem is that everything here in BC is Unionized making it more expensive to produce goods locally so companies will outsource to wherever they can have the goods made cheaper, and that just happens to be China. Get rid of the Unions and maybe people will start producing stuff locally that doesn't fall apart whenever you use it. Plus the Union only stops productions by having the companies go on strike while things are going along when somebody gets greedy and wants more money, which just hurts the companies that were relying on them in the first place. Yeah, everybody hates Unions, and that is also why to take their business elsewhere!

I suspect if you looked on the inside, you would find that both Philips and Panasonic components would have been manufactured in China anyway.

Wow. What a blanket statement!

Anyway, you can't blame the China for making poor items; it's the company that choose to outsource it and have it produced there but cheaped out on QUALITY CONTROL. You can produce quality products anywhere in the world if you have proper quality control procedures; and someone at the factory whose job is to specifically check on quality!

Items produced in Canada or the US can be of poor quality if there is no quality control procedures in place.

The reason why items from China are of poor quality are well because if you think about it... imagine a cheap Walmart type company. They want to maximize profits. How do they do that? Either raise prices (then not as many will buy) or cheap out in manufacturing. OK. So they chose option 2: cheap out in manufacturing. So where is the cheapest place to mass produce something? China because of low labour costs. So being a cheapy company, wanting to save money as much as possible, they cheap out in every possible way. This includes not having enough quality control measures to check items for deficiencies or if they meet specifications. The company simple turns a blind eye to what goes on at the plant. After all, the plant is rolling out widgets in mass quantities, and cost them only a fraction of hte price if they had made it here. Who cares if 50% of the stuff is garbage? Because of the higher margins from low cost production, they would still be making money if they had to give a manufacturer's refund. Meanwhile, now they are swimming with money when innocent consumers buy the stuff back in North America....

So who is really to blame? I blame the company that had the item produced. They need to stand behind their products and ensure that items made by workers are made to specifications. If they didn't cheap out on this step, there would be no problem.
