Mount Baker is a large, active, andesitic stratovolcano, rising to an elevation of 3285 m in the Cascade Range of northern Washington State (Figure A1). Its summit is approximately 100 km southeast of downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, 30 km south of the Canada-United States border, and 50 km due south of Chilliwack, British Columbia.
eeek thats close! |

HAHAH in 1980, Americans didn't even know Canada was up there! I'm kidding of course. Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! Yeah people don't seem to realize the extremes of nature that this planet can go through UNTIL they experience it themselves. I have always had a fear of a major earthquake in Vancouver...but I try not to think/talk about it. Especially since I live downtown!!! |

I saw theh PRovince's front page on this and all I can say that it was pathetic. Did they not have any other better story to go with ? I rather have to deal with Baker blowing then an earthquake.

I have a theory that all the underground nuclear testing at the time helped cause the geological activity in the late 70s and in the 80s, if it didn't it was quite strange in timing.

The whole Lower Mainland was covered with ash when St Helens blew. There was a film of white everywhere.... roads, buildings, cars... and this was in the dead of summer.. Right Chick? I remember it too. Of course it was. And you weren't even an idea in you're parents' mind when ST. Helens blew back in 1980. |
