I never converted to the prostitute version. The Red Ensign still fly around here. The new version was not necessary and actually meant nothing but to persue a Socialism/Communism agenda. Dig it out, you will see.

The Red Ensign was simply the best! Canadian troops find it hard to accept the new prostitute version/ when the 2nd world war was fought with the 'Ensign" fying!!!! We were proud of our British heritage.

You got to hand it to the old Jack though. Certainly. I think that the Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes are the best looking flags in the world. Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! But my favorite will always be the Canadian flag. It's who we are now. |

That's funny. That's exactly where I got the Red Ensign flag pic. I do like it, and it has its place. I'll always remember it for being on our ships kicking ass in WWII.

I had a poster as a kid and those two always stood out but Canada's did also from the rest. I think its the Blue Red thing. |

I do not believe in colonialism so I put a pox on Anlgo domination and it red flag of tyanny. This is why in my home America we pledge allegence to OUR flag not some old senile woman and the Union Jack! I defend anyone's right of opinion but I will not excuse the manifest destiny of a former colonial power. This is why America is the most successful country in the world, because we sent those tea drinking children back to their daddy and mommy with their beaten tails between their legs!
The English are a most barbaric race. ----Vivek |

Was on a certain plane that mattered too (another personal tale) I still am partial to the ensign, being honest I still don't like the maple, .. but .. c'est la vie ..... other things matter more Say, point of interest on it, mate's brother (a true ... err....character, with a press pass) was in on the maple being snitched from the peace tower the very night of it's commissioning by Pearson (i think it was he) of that very flag. It wrapped around & covered 2 full walls of our son's room for a years ... lost it in a fire. Intended to return it some day after we mellowed some on the topic, lol. |

What are you flying? Don't fly any. But I've bought every replica flag from New France that I could get my hands on. They were awesome, beautiful gems. French weren't much as far as administrators or empire builders like the English, but they did make the most beautiful flags. They were great fashion statements, notwithstanding the incompetence of the administrators of New France. Aside from the other flag I bought, here's another: Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! ..A better picture of the one above: Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! Still another.... Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! ..it's a bit sad to think that the idea of New France was never viable while after the British finally took it over in 1763, it became a hugely successful colony of the British Empire. It was a good idea tho'. It's just that the France could never make it work, but the English could. |

The deficits they are carrying year after year? The weakness of their currency on international markets such that the G8 have to prop it up now? Even Conservative Republicans like Ron Paul and John McCain have expressed their concerns about the economic mess in AMerica today. What do you have to say to that? |

Thank you for those. They are works of art. If I could find any more, I'll post them. I'm trying to build up a nice collection of flags and symbols from New France at home. So far I've got 4 and growing. Apparently, even the Cadillac symbol which GM uses on its cars, is derived from a coat of arms of the founder of present day Detroit. Here's one of the original Cadillac symbols. Not sure if this from the car or the time of New France: Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! This particular flag was usually made out of table cloth material with golden fleur de-lis symbols. Got this one at home too: Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! |

Well put Querty. Was on a certain plane that mattered too (another personal tale) I still am partial to the ensign, being honest I still don't like the maple, .. but .. c'est la vie ..... other things matter more I would like to hear what plane that Red Ensign was on. I love that stuff. I'm still partial to the ensign as well. But I love the Maple Leaf. Sure, it's a completely understated symbol, but it feels so... Canadian. Either way, we're so lucky to have so many interesting flags in our short history. I love the New France flags and the fleur de lis. We can all argue that England won the war, or that Quebec should separate, but I'm just happy that we have at least a bit from both cultures.Say, point of interest on it, mate's brother (a true ... err....character, with a press pass) was in on the maple being snitched from the peace tower the very night of it's commissioning by Pearson (i think it was he) of that very flag. You had that Pearson flag for a while? That's amazing! I've heard that story. |

Really did intend to take it back, some day, but it was destroyed. I will pm you on the plane. Yes, we are lucky to have such a varied culture here in our Canada. I'm even mellowing on the flag ....... a bit, lol. We have lived in several coutries around the world so have yardsticks, but I so love Canada, it is the best!!!!! |

I think the Red Ensign looks dated. Very old fashioned. A relic of the First and Second World Wars. It should have been replaced because it never accounted for the French speaking population of Quebec nor the Native peoples of Canada, 2 other groups who were directly responsible for the founding of Canada. That alone was good enough reason to get rid of it. We're no longer a colony of Britain.
