I am a former employee of fitness world and: 1. you don't get a discount if you clean the machines they are actual staff members that get paid to do it 2. you can only get out of paying if you move somewhere where they don't have an affiliated club 3. they will try to sell you THE ZONE, Personal Training, Aerobics classes, or any other big promotion Join a community centre its cheaper, hassle free and no contract. | ||

There are one or two new girls at the front desk you actually acknowledge people when they walk in, but most of the staff are way too cool to talk to you! They need at bit of help in the customer service department.
After a couple of years your payments drop down to under $20, that's pretty good. I've been to the location in Langley as well. It's also very impersonal but nice inside.
The only suggestions I'd have for FW are:
-Fix the new TV's at the Kingsway location, do we really have to watch the money channel all day. I miss the old ones where you could at least show a hockey game.
-Give the door staff some customer service training. The few new girls seem to get it, why not everyone else? You don't have to do much, just make eye contact and say hi/bye!
-24 hour access at the Kingsway location.
-Make all classes free (yoga).
-Hire people with at least some training to be giving advice. I was in there a guy was looking for exercises he could do for a sore back. The advice the 85-pound asian trainer gave him could have left him crippled, good thing he told her she was wrong.
-Clean the carpet in the stretching area, it smells bad!

Fitness world sucks, I had a really bad day because of those .............the guys never ever talked to me about a 2 year contract..he was too sales pressured and he was forcing me to pay for something I wasn't even sure. I had to give in because of his intimidating and forcing personality..and also i was running late for work..cancelling! I am stuch with 500$ and I never even worked out for one day!
I hate them to death. Maybe they have good facilities but they have the worst policies and consequently their employees have to pay the pots. I feel sorry for all fitness world employees..just relocated to a better fitness company

my concerns are more with some of the members and the saturday and sunday and closing times. the gay members seem to think the whole world is gay and often position themselves around you or ask to work in with you with the hopes of scoring, one trip to the locker room was my last.
as for the hours of business, it seems ridiculous to shut down at 7:00pm on a saturday and nine on sunday. many of my friends work in either health care, retail, sales or in their own personal business and would love to see more flexibility in there weekend scheduling.
i would also love to see more women in the gym... so in the final analysis, i am satisfied with my contract, the centre, the staff, the location and in comparison to denman fitness and the community centres this has been to date a better overall facility.

ive been a fitness world member for 4 years and i find it to be a pretty good gym. all my "complaints" are very minor. the price is good (im now at $19 for the rest of my life) in 2007, its already a good price considering the crappiest gyms and community centers costs more than that. in 2015 and beyond, its going to sound like a steal. community centers now charge...$40 a month? it'll be $55 or so in 8 years, $70 in 12 years and so on. new equipment seems to trickle in every year and think they do a decent job of replacement. if youre thinking about joining a gym for the long term, i highly recommend because they have so many locations and upgraded equipment.
for those who keep posting how they dont like the contracts at fitness world...its a CONTRACT. you signed the agreement and accepted its terms and conditions. its pretty black and white to me. if i went to a car dealership to sign a 3 year contract to lease a car...do i go back 1.5 years later hoping they will let me off the hook from the contract because i moved? or because i dont like the price? or for some other reason such as that? once you sign, its a done deal. stop whining.

My take:
Pros: Locations Everywhere in Lower Mainland, I pay $20 so it's cheap.
Cons: Could use more locations since they have tons of members. Their programs are kind of expensive but really i don't need it.
No pain no gain... doesn't matter which gym you go, it's all about you. I got results... do you?

i know what I wanna do to work out cause i go to this wed site
T-nation google itThen Fitness World is worth all the money cause you wont need to talk to anyone
on how to get in shape
and how you would like to be.
I like strength training, so my only problem with FW is that they do not have real power racks there and they should have two for the amount of guys that go there.
They have this half ass one but its ok.
I'll pay 24 bucks in a year in a half. Thats a sweet deal and I'll get to go all over the place in the lower mainland to work out.
So Its easier not to skip a workout day.
Even though I'm closer to davie FW I ride my bike to the Bute st one in coal harbour.
Thats a good FW gym too.
However they only have one half ass power rack for this locfation too.

This is a place to avoid. The atmosphere in a Fitness World gym is similar to that of a cheesy pickup joint. At first glance the services they provide and the flexible hours and locations seem to offer a quality service. Every effort will be made to suck you in to a contract, from which there is little escape. They will have a personal sales attendant, sorry a personal trainer, there to squeeze even more money out of your budget. The equipment is always busy during peak hours, where you must wait under the scrutiny of other the members. This place just feels slimy. There are far better options available than a Fitness World gym. The local community center is a great option. If you are interested in the pick up atmosphere I would recommend trying an online dating service, at least there is no contract. Before joining this gym, make sure you know what you are getting into.

Atmosphere: Zero

It's sad when a franchise like FW has been on sale for the past five years and have drawn little to no intrest from buyers. That should tell you alot about their clubs and the facilites they offer.
I give fitnessworld another 10-15 years then bye bye 1960's fitness belief system and Im sure I speak for 90% of the members at FW when I say "Thank God for that".

I agree with you!
And I don't think fat is a bad thing.
FAT = Fabulous And Thick
bigger women more attractive than skinny ones!
You’ll be surprised at how many men are looking for big women on plusmingle.com.

Not true you can take any classes there and not be a member. They just say that to sucker you in. Non-members pay more for classes though. As for their marketing plan, no your not off at all, you hit it right on the nail. Most people that run FW dont have any and i mean any education. They have been working htere since they were 17-18 and made it into managment. They are complete dinasours. I use to work there and Im taking business in school, the place is a mktg disaster. My manager did not know how to use e-mail properly or Word to type up memos, and she got paid more then me. Basically the potential is there but the brains aren't.
