The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is one of two components of the Parliament of British Columbia, the other being the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia. Parliament meets in Victoria. The members (MLAs) of the 38th Parliament were elected in the BC general election held on May 17, 2005.
...
Colin Hansen (BC's MINISTER OF FINANCE) was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia during the general election of 1996...
Hansen has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Victoria. He has worked in small business and as vice-president of finance and administration for the Asia-Pacific Foundation.
...
Oh, Doc, look here. Hansen most likely is getting favourable treatment from China...LOL. :D

I checked up the Minister of Finance of Alberta and it is Iris Evans.
Iris Evans is a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. From November 25, 2004 to December 15, 2006 Ms. Evans served as Alberta's Minister of Health and Wellness in Premier Ralph Klein's cabinet. After Ed Stelmach assumed the office of Premier, she was named Minister of Employment, Immigration and Industry in his cabinet. After the 2008 Alberta provincial election, Premier Stelmach appointed Ms. Evans as Minister of Finance and Enterprise .
A nurse by training, Ms. Evans was first elected in the Alberta legislature in 1997, representing the riding of Sherwood Park for the PC party. She previously held the portfolios of Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister of Children's Services. Prior to being elected to the legislature, Ms. Evans served as a school board trustee, municipal councillor, and finally as the Reeve of Strathcona County.
...
OMFG...she is a trained nurse handling Finance?
WTF
It makes sense. I guess the guys making big bucks with CFAs, MBAs, CAs, CGAs etc don't want to take a pay cut and work for the government for a bunch of fickle people...LOL.
They will always make the big bucks no matter who the government is...
LMAO

You measure intelligence and financial smarts by the obsession of a Uni degree? I know lots of people buried in debt and not getting out with uni degrees, and lots of financially successful people without degrees. In fact one could argue that a lot of people come out of Uni with less than they took with them.

LOL...poor DocWatson.
Vancouver South: Wai Young is a Chinese Conservative Party member.
Vancouver Centre (my riding) is Lorne Mayencourt (Conservative)
http://en.wikipedia....orne_Mayencourt
Lorne Mayencourt is a Canadian politician, who represents the electoral district of Vancouver-Burrard in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. He is a member of the BC Liberal party.
Mayencourt was first elected in the 2001 provincial election, defeating New Democrat opponent Tim Stevenson.
He was previously the founder and, for its first five years, executive director of the Vancouver Friends for Life Society, which supports people living with AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
In the 2005 election, conflicting results throughout the night had both Mayencourt and Stevenson declared the victor in Vancouver-Burrard, and the uncertainty continued for several weeks. In the final count of regular ballots, Stevenson was declared the winner by 17 votes; however, when absentee ballots were counted on May 30, Mayencourt was declared the winner by a margin of 18 votes. After a judicial recount, Mayencourt was declared the victor by 11 votes.
He is known for his Private Member's Bill called the Safe Streets Act, which aimed to deter aggressive panhandling.
Mayencourt has announced that he will not run in the 2009 provincial election. He is the nominated Conservative Party of Canada's candidate in Vancouver Centre for the next general election.

Your totally right.
However, a degree teaches you the fundamentals.
Everyone can learn whatever they want to.
Just people with degrees are much more efficient in their areas, since they don't have to learn on the job.
So you would go see someone about health related problems that went to school for finance?
NOT

If he works in the field, he took the CSC, CPH etc.
I'm sure he also had to take Calculus 101 at least.
His degree taught him how to learn.
Most people do not know their true calling until later anyway.
Some people waste their degree education and some don't.
My background has helped me quite a bit. No need to show off here.
