wot is this place? do they sell drugs?

cus i always pass it when i go to skytrain, and i see it is never open. everything in there looks very old!

has anyone ever been there?

i know people who have been going past the lido for years and never seen it open. I  personally have never seen it open in about 5 years. WTF? Thier is a note posted in the front window Has anyone read that?

After passing by at all hours of the day and on all different days of the week and never seeing it open, I was so curious about this place I asked neighbouring business owners what the deal was. This is what the guy at the mechanic shop beside told me. He said that an older couple used to run the shop, but the husband died awhile back. Apparently, the wife keeps the store in immaculate condition, just like it was when he was alive. He said it was open on Saturdays, but I've driven by on Saturdays and never seen it open. I've never been able to confirm the story, and it still peaks my curiosity every time I go by there.

Ha Ha. It's a museum!

I pass through that Lido shop everytime im walking to Kingsgate Mall. I've never seen it open in the morning or afternoon but im sure that it is not a drug deal place. What's a drug dealing spot is that corner store near the Youth Resource Centre.

I would like to do an interview with the owners for a publishing project I am working on.  If anyone knows how to contact these people I would be honoured. 

the calendar in the window is current, and the plants are watered. So if you just hang around all day near there, you should be able to snag the person who "maintains" the place

I'm dying to know just what that store is. I've noticed it for the last 10 years. Weird how it's never open.

The Lido claims to bev an Italian specialty shop and only open on Sat. Over the last  5 years, I've seen an older lady in there twice. All the stock is canned or dry pasta....My guess is it's a Maffia money laundering front....It'll be sad to see one of Vancouver's urban mysteries solved, though...

One interesting mystery about the palce is that the calendar in the window is always current, while the rest of the store is frozen in time.

I have lived in Vancouver for 36 years, and I have never seen it open.

I lived near 6th and Fraser a few years ago and was curious about the Lido for a long time, so I went by on a Saturday. I've been in there a few times since. The woman and her son who run the store are very nice people. It's NOT a mafia front! It used to be a specialty shop run by the woman's husband but he passed away in (I think) the 1980s. He also sold leather jackets; there used to be a small selection of sample coats in immaculate condition - think Mary Tyler Moore's style - but I bought them all for $20 a piece, because they fit like they'd been custom-made for me. She also sold me a sweater from the same era for $1 - she was just happy that someone would enjoy them. She said no one had even taken them off of their hangers for 25 years.

I think she probably enjoys keeping the shop open once a week (although I haven't seen it open since I moved three years ago) and the interaction with the one or two people who might wander in.

Since this article was printed, the Lido is now another newspaper-coated store front. I had the misfortune to hear a diatribe from a friend of hers who hated all the people asking what is was, etc. Due to the increased attention from the courier article, they have papered the place.

I have lived in that neighborhood for 10 years and always wondered as well. The owner was getting on in years, but still left the storefront there, so naturally there are curious people who wonder about the store. Another Vancouver landmark/mystery gone.

I'm sad to see the windows of The Lido covered too. I didn't know that would be the consequence of an article.

I received a phone call from a man in his 80s who enjoyed the story. He said he used to deliver bottles of milk there back when they cost 5 cents each and were sold for 7 cents.

is it a drug front? why would they paper the windows if they had nothing to hide?

Shame - this place seemed so interesting - I was looking to use it for a photo shoot.

i havent been in that area in while but as a kid i use to walk by that store all the time, that was 25 yrs ago....never really knew what it was

perhaps the answer is here?
