i was hoping someone might be able to suggest a hotel downtown for a group of 30-50 people to stay relatively cheap on the august long weekend. like, 4 per room, one night, hopefully walking distance from the royal unicorn (which is where we're probably having a show, before we're off to the mountains and a small music festival that weekend). hostels cost too much that amount of people, as i'm covering most of the bill.
i guess we could also take a night bus somewhere out of downtown, if we even fit on a bus. well if nothing else we'll just sneak into stanley park and set up camp... |

I stayed there for 3 weeks once and was treated like a king by my attendants |

thanks, this actually looks like a good suggestion, as long as the crack dealers don't rob us. reasonable rates. have you stayed there, can you vouch for it? as for the Days Inn, checked out their site, they have a page for Rates, but no rates, sort of annoying. |

hostels cost too much that amount of people, as i'm covering most of the bill. Well, if $18 per person per night in a hostel (and probably much less if you book that many people like you intend to do) is too much for you then the only place I can think of is Downtown Eastside budget hotel alongside other crack heads and losers. |

How come you're shelling out for everyone? Did you lose a bet? or are you playing the highroller?
There is a hotel downtown thats very reasonable but it only has small rooms and doesnt do groups per room. Not sure which hotels would accept 4 people per room. |

Don't stay in a hostel. Downtown is a scum-pit after dark.. pay the extra money to stay in a reputable hotel.

i stayed at that place next to the greyhound once, that hostel wasn't quite as bad as i had expected and heard about... however i wouldn't trust it with valuables, and there were some sketchy people around for sure.
i'm shelling out because i'm hosting a small mountain music festival south of chilliwack at an alpine lake, that weekend. my netlabel puts out free albums, and so i want this festival to be free as well, but you have to earn it, it's a 10km hike uphill. we have a group coming up from colorado that i wanted to show the city off to, and am paying for the musicians of that posse, as well as some other performers, so i guess i won't be paying everyone's room but probably 15 people at least. and as a treeplanter i'm used to having to stay in hotels all over the province 4-to-a-room, most seemed to allow this as long as there's 2 double beds, although i always ended up on the floor.... |

Maybe get in touch with either Tourism Vancouver, or maybe UBC for help...
The student dorms out at UBC would probably be mostly empty in August??? |

hmm the dorms might be a good idea. a bit far from downtown... but we'll have a school bus and we could sacrifise someone as the DD...

well $18 per person isn't so bad, i thought with taxes and all it would be 25-30 a night at a hostel $18/night is the final price. What you see is what you pay. QUOTE i stayed at that place next to the greyhound once, that hostel wasn't quite as bad as i had expected and heard about... If you mean that Greyhound bus parking lot and garage, it's gone now. It was torn down about 5 years ago and today there is a 25 story building there Attention: REGISTER / LOGIN to view the image! The place is called C&N Backpapers Hostel (927 Main Street). |

i always forget the name... not the Ironhorse, but something like that. i liked the seedy feel, reminded me of home (winnipeg) it's only the bar that worried me. but... not sure that's the best place to bring a group to impress them with your city.

yes the ivanhoe! we might end up there. i prefer the jericho beach hostel, but i think i paid more there plus it's too out of the way.
the best western is too pricey, $189 plus taxes is the best i could find there for a double room, that's about double what i'd like to pay for accomodations. it might be worth it for what you get, but too steep for me. thanks for the suggestion though. |

okay checked online some more, the granville grand or whatever it's called seems nice and cheap, but no reviews i could find almost seems like there must be something wrong with it.
however i'm leaning towards the dominion, above the lamplighter, seedy but artsy, anyone been there? |
