I'm tired of defending my city...

Vancouver is beautiful. It's my home so it's the best place on earth to me.

If Vancouver is not great enough for you, or if you simply hate Vancouver for whatever reason, it's fine by me though it's better for all of us if you just leave - for you, you get out of the misery; for us, we get better vibes and a less crowded city.

Why these changes?

-Some of the threads here will be moved from DV Forum to the Vancouver Community

-All image posting will be suspended, you can still post the link to the image within DV's TOS but images will not display. why? I don't usually click the links...

-Curse filter will be tightened up on DV.

-DV will be temporarily changing to all guest posting. why?

-Current DV account holders are encouraged to move there conversations over to the Vancouver Community Forum (stricter moderation).

-During this time DV members accounts will be active for "Private Messaging Only" and will not be able to post under their handle.

Fun facts about the Greater Vancouver region

1859 – for most of British Columbia's time as a colony, New Westminster was the
capital city. This title remained until 1868, when the capital was moved to Victoria.

1886 – all but two buildings of the new city of Vancouver were destroyed by fire.

1913 – Kingsway – originally an overland “escape route” from New Westminster to
English Bay in the 1860s – became B.C.’s first paved highway. In 1923, it became
part of the Pacific Coast Highway system, which in its heyday, stretched from
Vancouver to California.

1942 – in preparation of a potential air attack following the bombing of Pearl
Harbour, the federal government chose the Willingdon Heights area of Burnaby –
where Brentwood Town Centre Station is today – as the location for a top-secret
anti-aircraft gun battery.

1953 – Vancouver earned a place on the world entertainment map when the cast
and director of the hit play, Tobacco Road, were arrested for putting on a “lewd and
lascivious” production. Some of those artists are now in the B.C. Entertainment Hall
of Fame.

1983 – B.C. Place Stadium was opened by Queen Elizabeth and is now the home of
the B.C. Lions and numerous major trade shows and concerts.

Communication: World in Motion – World in Touch” and SkyTrain was one of the
main showpieces.

2005 – The “Economist Intelligence Unit”, a research group connected to the
respected British financial journal, named Vancouver the “world's most liveable city.”

2010 – Vancouver will be hosting the 21st Olympic Winter Games from February 12
to 28 and the 10th Paralympics Winter Games from March 12 to 21.
