I too had severe acne in my early twenties and my doctor prescribed me Diane 35 as both a BC and an acne treatment. After 2-3 months it worked and my acne was gone completely. After a few years my doctor wanted me to try another BC pill hoping that my scne problem would be gone. She said that you shouldn't stay on Diane 35 for a long time. AFter 3 months on my new BC (forgot the name) I broke out in severe acne again. So my doc put me back on Diane 35. Now years later I have a new doctor and she too decided to try and put me on a new BC saying the same thing my old doctor said. The first BC she tried me on was Alesse and it didn't work, my acne came back. She is now trying me on Yaz and I have only been taking it for 3 days but I have had a horrible headache each day.

I did some research on the internet and it seems that both Yaz and Diane 35 have the same common side effects and both are controversal drugs. Both have caused blot clots in some women. I am not going to stay on Yaz because of the headaches I have had and I am going to go back on DIANE 35. It has worked for me for over 8 years and I havn't noticed any other side effects from the taking the drug. That said I am still concerned anout the risk of blood clots and liver problems, and I am going to continue to do research about the product. Good luck to everyone!

Hello, I tried Diane about a year ago for 5 months and it really calmed things down. Thankfully I didn't suffer major side effects although I would say my 'drive' was definitely affected and slowed down. I went back to my normal pill which is Alesse and things have been ok, although there's been a breakout here and there. My saving grace that I found has been in Neostrata. I have been using the Oil Free Cleansing Gel and the Oil Free Daytime Smoothing Lotion Level 3. It has been AMAZING and since using that combo my skin has never looked better! Highly recommended! Please check out those Neostrata products if you need help, possibly before going on Diane...good luck! :)

My ex-girlfriend got pregnant the first time we had sex after she had taken Diane 35 for over 1 year. But we had to abort due to complications from the cervical cancer she got from using birth control pills.

I have been on diane for 9 months, which was with accutane to for 3 of it. Now have stayed on it for sexual reasons and wondering if its actually effective as a contraceptive? i would like to switch to yasmin, my dads a doctor and recommends it more. But am scared the acne will return.

Hi, I used to have really bad acne when I was a teenager and when nothing else worked my doctor prescribed Accutane. My skin cleared almost immediately after the pill. I am now 22 years old and I feel that the acne is slowly coming back, I'm getting a lot on my chest and it's scarring really bad. My doctor recommended Diane 35 or Accutane. I thought Diane 35 would have less severe side effects than accutane but judging from this forum it seems like Diane has its own story. Has anyone ever been on accutane AND diane 35 to see which one works better with less severe side effects?

When i was 15 i started to break out REALLY bad and tried Alesse, which didnt work. So my doctor presribed me Accutane and Diane. Worked great in 3 months my skin was perfect so i went off Accuane. I stayed on Diane 35 for other reasons and still have great skin. No side effects either.

I've just completed m first pack. Unfortunately when I bought it I hadn't known it was primarily prescribed for acne treatment, or else I would not have bought it, since I don't have acne. My ill side effect has been that my breasts have been swollen and tender for the last 2 weeks. I read on the package that it is a relatively common side effect for the first couple months. I really hope thats all it is, and that I'm not actually pregnant (its too early for me to check yet).

Anyway, what with the discomfort and the fact that I didn't have acne to begin with, I'm not going to be continuing to use this product.

And I've also read a lot of the negative press it has gotten, and thats scared me quite a bit too. Be careful.
