Jerome Iginla makes 7.5 million, but he's made it to a Stanley Cup final and won the scoring championship along with notching 50 goals.
Sidney Crosby, 9 million but he's won the scoring race, won the Stanely Cup too.
Pavel Datsuyk, 7.1 million, but he's won the Lady Byng, the Stanley Cup and been an all star in many seasons.
The Sedin Twins, notch 80 points, make it only to the second round of the playoffs and ask for 6.1 million over 5/6 seasons.
Heck, combined, they're not even as good as Markus Naslund was in his prime when he notched 48 goals in a season.
If all the other above players are tier 1 -1.5 players, I'd put the Sedins on Tier 2/3.
Which means they probably don't deserve any more than 3 million (and even that's a stretch), with a 2/3 year contract at most.
....Any comments?

The Sedin twins.... ....worth the 6.1 million per season they'll be getting?

Yeah, I'd say they're worth it. It's the going rate for players of similar skill. All of the big names in the latest free agency signings have signed for 6-8 million.

I dont think any player is worth 6.1 mil a year, but that's what teams are willing to pay for them.
The thing I don't understand is why Gillis is actively pursuing Mats Sundin for another season, I don't think he can help the Canucks, the money could be better spent on getting some young talent. Its time for Sundin to hang up the skates

I don't think there's anything wrong with a player making 6 million dollars, as long as he makes that much back for his team and the league.
Wayne Gretzky may have made $10-20 million a year when he was active, but he won cups and International tournaments.
He was the game. Likewise, Sidney Crosby gets paid the big bucks, but at only 22, he's gotta Stanley Cup ring.
Basically put, the Sedins'll be lucky if they get to the semis in their coming seasons.
That's not first tier.
But who knows? Perhaps miraculously, they'll get better and produce 100 point seasons.
That'd be a stretch, tho'.
Here's a website which lists the salaries of NHL teams and players. As an example, read Pittsburgh's salary roster and then you'll weep:
Pittsburgh-Penguins Salaries | Pittsburgh-Penguins Player Salaries | 2009 Pittsburgh-Penguins Salary
The Pittsburgh player who scored both of their goals in game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals is making $1 million per year.
The Sedins couldn't even get by Chicago, yet many of their players are making much less than the Sedins, including an up and coming defenseman named Johanthan Seabrooke.
