Amphetamines include both the specific chemical 'amphetamine' and the general class of chemicals which share structural similaries. Amphetamines generally cause strong physical and mental stimulation, keeping users awake and alert for many hours, and some amphetamines cause mood lift / euphoria. Because they increase wakefulness, various amphetamines have been used by the military, by pilots, truck drivers, and other workers to keep functioning past their normal limits.
Amphetamines are also used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder and can have the seemingly paradoxical effect of quieting and calming users. Common amphetamines include Dexedrine (d-amphetamine), methamphetamine, Ritalin, and adderall (dl-amphetamine). Substantial amounts of pharmaceutical amphetamines are diverted from medical use to recreational and work-related uses.

Yeah, but come exam time, he'll be in 'crash' mode. I'd stick with the coffee, you can still do exams with the shakes.....

First of all, I have been thru this before and I have seen some students get sick over doing stuff like this. Staying up all night to cram a bunch of info info your head so you can pass a test is not the right way to go.
Want something that is proven to work and that will actually stay in your head for many years after your schooling? PAY ATTENTION in class and STUDY, DO the homework and take an interest in what you are learning. STUDY everyday....do study groups...make flashcards, and read them while travelling on a bus/skytrain...or just keep them in your bag and bring them out when you are with freinds and let them ask you questions on the cards and answer them....I did all of this...I even bought my flash cards out at parties sometimes and you'd be surprised how many people were interested in what I was learning and asked me questions.
Continuous learning to keep that info in your head will not only keep you from getting stressed about an exam, but keep you confident in the long run.
Good Luck on your exam!

More than one in 20 college students misuses drugs intended to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but those who do so typically use the drugs as a study aid, not to get high, researchers found.
A study undertaken by researchers from the University of Michigan, Duke University, and University of North Carolina at Greensboro found that about 5 percent of 3,407 students surveyed said they had used an ADHD medication like Ritalin, Adderall and Concerta without a prescription within the past six-months. Nine percent reporting using ADHD drugs since starting college.
Ninety percent of those who used the medications said the reasons was to help them study, and of those, 90 percent said it was effective.
"The nonmedical use of prescription stimulants among U.S. college students is now at its highest level in 15 years," said Sean McCabe of the University of Michigan, a co-author of the study.
Previous research showed that more than 90 percent of college students who use ADHD medications obtain the drugs from friends.
Students who reported using alcohol and other substances frequently during the past six months were more likely to use ADHD medication without a prescription. Sleep difficulties, irritability and headaches were among the adverse effects reported by students who used the medications.
"Learning about the benefits that students perceive from nonmedical ADHD medication use may inform efforts to prevent this behavior," said David Rabiner, lead study author and senior research scientist at Duke.
Unfair Advantage
Since Ritalin and Adderall help increase concentration and decrease fatigue, students are able to study longer and more effectively. Is this cheating compared to those students that study without this kind of pharmaceutical aid? Since the drug is being sold, perhaps poorer students are unable to afford the pills - is this fair to these students? But then again, is it cheating to drink a cup of coffee or is this somehow different?
The study appears online in the Journal of Attention Disorders

My 1st exam was at 12 and the second one at 2! I was finished at 4, went home and had a really short nap, then went back to school for my evening class which was from 7 to 10!
I got the midterm marks for my evening class and I did really good so I was all excited and couldn't sleep until 1 am last night!
