If you are going to go on about a so called 'burden' to teachers in a classroom, don't you think YOU should first learn how to spell?? Hopefully you do not have children because if they are learning anything from you THEY will be the ones demanding more of their teacher's time . . .they will be the burden. Don't even get me started on the ignorance and intolerance that they would be learning from you as well.
I am horrified at the mean-spirited comments. Leave her alone to raise her beautiful son who is nothing less than a blessing.

and, she is not fat. she's not a runway model, but give her a break she just had a baby. you all know what fat looks like, she's may have a few extra pounds, but that is normal after having a baby.
finally, how can anyone say all the mean comments like fat, retarded and she's stupid. are you not afraid someday you too may be faced with something like this. becare what you say, it might come back to you.
she's a wonderful person, and she will have the strenght and courage to deal with this. her beautiful son will be in my prayers.
Strongly agreed. These Tamara Taggart threads are more than just a little bizarre... she ain't that interesting guys - move on with your lives.

Those with downs syndrome always appear more retarded because of the common physical deformities and a speech defects. But in reality some are near the thresholds of normal intelligence.

It doesn't just apply to retards - our whole society now seems to think that competition and meritocracy are evil and demeaning when the truth is these traits built our country. Face facts, the Untermensch are a drain on our governments resources and are a burden with no purpose or benefit to our society. Aborting such a travesty would have been the most humane course of action in this case for all involved- and now there is one more permanent useless member of society on the wefare roll.
Oh yeah, she did the right thing.....

Some women do that to men, they become infatuated. Leave it alone. It is old.

To *every lunatic* on this board who thinks a woman should abort a fetus with DS, I say: Shame, shame, shame on you! Hitler must be your hero since you share the same view that mentally challenged people should be euthanised. *REVOLTING!!!* Have you learned nothing from history?
I'm 33 years old and my partner and I want to wait until I'm done graduate school before starting our family. So am I irresponsible? According to the Nazi-wannabes on this forum, yes. Pfff!!!
Most of us will incur (Truthy, that's how you spell that word, not 'encur') a heavy debt for taxpayers when we reach the last few years of our life, if not sooner. I wonder how many of these mightier-than-thou, humanity-lacking thugs have put away at least $60,000 a year for assisted living or a nursing home for when they get old? Probably none, so keep your 'burden-to-the-taxpayers' arguments to yourself!
Tamara, ignore these people! Beckett's a little cutie!!! Best wishes to your family! (But I hope you're not reading this -- there's just too much ignorance and hatred on this forum, and because of that, I'm out of here!)

Calling her names won't change anything.
As a tax payor, I don't mind my money going to support children. So don't speak for us. And please educate yourself before you post comments. A lot of DS children actually live normal lives. Like the other person indicated, each case may be different.
Also, did you guys ever think she didn't have the test done because it would have made no difference to her. Had she know, she would have kept the child and not aborted, so please don't speak for her.
I wish you all the very best, but please don't attack women and children. It's just not classy. What does it say about you?

If this kid turns out inept and can't contribute to society and becomes a burden then where will the funds to pay for his services come from? Thought so. So don't be so quick to criticize a (life long) tax payer(s) who is probably struggling to make ends meet and the last thing they need is to fork over more of their hard earned money to someone who may never contribute.
Despite what you want to control what's written here, we are aloud to voice our opinion.
I might add, Truthy and Carl summed it up nicely...

At least she had a child w/ down syndrome. She has the financial stability to take care of a child w/ a disorder. She is fortunate to send this child to special schools, get nannies etc.
I ran into Tamara, her husband and the baby in a restaurant. They look like they really love the little baby, but i wouldn't be surprised if people think the child has down syndrome because have you seen tamara's husband? The Singer of Dave mathew's Band is hideous.

Amniocentesis is a test that is usually done around the 16th week of gestation (normal pregnancy is 40 weeks long), the cells from the amniotic fluid are grown in culture and then the chromosomes of those cells are counted and analyzed, to make sure that the correct number (total=46) is there and that all of the chromosomes themselves are structurally normal. If this test shows 47 chromosomes, with an extra number 21, that is trisomy 21, also known as Down Syndrome (DS). If amniocentesis shows trisomy 21, then there is no risk of the baby being chromosomally normal. To get amniocentesis in BC, the mother has to be at least 35 years old at the time the baby is born OR have had an abnormal ultrasound or abnormal triple screen test. Ultrasound is done at around 18 weeks gestational age and cannot conclusively diagnose trisomy 21 syndrome but can show some of the anomalies that may be associated with it, such as an abnormal heart. Triple screen is a blood test done at around 15-16 weeks of gestation and measures three markers; analysis of the levels of these markers can suggest increased risk of trisomy 21 or trisomy 18 or show evidence of spina bifida. It is not a conclusive test and amniocentesis has to be performed to prove trisomy 21.
Past sex history and maternal or paternal use of drugs have no bearing on one's risk for trisomy 21. The strongest determinant is maternal age, with the risk at 35 years being 1/190 and rising steadily from there. However, everyone at any age has the potential to have a DS baby - that is why some people opt to have triple screen. The majority of Down Syndrome babies are born to young women who would not ordinarily be eligible for amniocentesis on the basis of maternal age .
Many people choose not to have any testing in their pregnancies. There are many tests offered throughout pregnancy - icluding testing for infections, testing for diabetes, etc - and people are given the information necessary to make a decision adn then they make - wait for it - an informed decision. If you go see your doctor tomorrow about the pain in your ass, the doctor will make a diagnosis, give you the treatment options, and then expect you to make a decision as to your therapy. And, you aren't obliged to take that doctor's recommendations because we live in a society where adults are not coerced into unwanted medical interventions.
All of you people who are saying horrible things about these children being a burden on society - how are they any different from people who drain the medical system because they have heart disease as the result of sitting around making ignorant posts to anonymous forums instead of getting some exercise? The intellectual capacityof DS individuals is variable, with some able to live independently. In addition, I am sure that Ms. Taggart and her family are more than well-equipped to look after their children and, fortunately, won't have to rely on the kindness of uncharitable and foul-tempered bigots.

Look at Global B.C. Jill Krop isn't she pregnant and how old is she ?
I think Tamara is pretty much screwed for the rest of her life. Ya people with DS can eventually live on their own but Tamara is still going to have a special needs kid for the next 20 years.

And what happens when the kid turns 40, and Tamara and hubby are dead? He may provide joy for his parents. But society will see him as just another flawed mistake and warehouse him in some institution
I hope she and her husband make the best of this situation... I really do! But its really a no win situation for the parents, the baby and society.

Tamara is probably a good mother and would have liked to have a normal child being it probably would be the only kid she would have.
