Many people on the net can unlock phones, and many are just Kids.  If they break your phone it will not work, do they replace it if they break it?  I have found a fews guys in Toronto, that have stores and are in the business full time and do this for a living.

1. www.cellspeed.ca - contact: Vic "wicked cool guy"
2. www.bongowireless.com - contact: Kevin "nice guy, but too busy to answer emails"
3. www.cellteckwireless.com - Faisal "cool guy, really busy and does not like to awswer phone calls"

Try one of these guys as i have used all of them and know i am getting a pro and not a kid, trying to make an extra buck for the marijuanna addiction. "joke"

Don't be stupid.

Telus Mobility hasn't accept unlocked (ie: foreign) ESN's in years. Don't bother because if you can manage to unlock a CDMA handset you won't be able to use it on TM or even Bell. Both companies now cross reference ESN's in their systems.

Be careful when dealing with Cellspeed.ca, I bought a treo 650 from them months ago and I am still waiting for the promised manual and software! They shipped the treo individually wrapped in a courier envelope (box was more expensive) and this was after emails and phone calls about why no tracking number on the phone. Now I get no response via email and my phone calls get the sorry we shipped it, will be shipping tomorrow, and just packing it up now. Months later no manual or software and no replies ( other than the automated we got ones) to my emails. Bad experience with cellspeed.ca so be careful when dealing with them.

Mr. Lance did purchase a Brand NewTreo 650, and yes it is true that the manual and cd were not in thepackage. So, as soon as i found out i sent the manual and cd "sealed"and sent it via Canada Post using regular mail. He then tells me thathe never got it. Fine, I went and sent him another one the same way.Again he says he did not get it. So now i am confused! I send itemsusing Canada post all the time, and out of 100 shipments maybe 1 or 2would get lost. Then i contact him letting him know that if he couldpay for FedEx shipping and of course he tells me no way. After losing 2(atleast as he states) manual's and CD's i feel that i am gettingripped off. These are really hard to come by.

Mr. Lance its a few bucks we can split the costs and it will bethere 100% FedEx overnight with Signature. There would be no way theycould lose it and if they did $100 would come our way.

So lets be fair for both parties.

Vic

If you mean GSM handsets, I use Foreign Electronics in Vancouver (111 West Broadway).

If you mean CDMA, well the replies above should help.

I am travelling to India and phones there are already unlocked when i buy.
I want to buy one CDMA (Verizon) phone for my girlfriend and one GSM (Rogers) for me. I want to know how easy it will be to program...
1. An unlocked CDMA phone for Verizon Wireless (US - NY)
2. An unlocked GSM phone for Rogers (GTA)
Thanks very much.
Gary

CDMA phones cant be unlocked,, they only can be programed to use diff CDMA providers info. Also u need to have somebody in the company , ie .bell or telus, who is willing to add the ESN into thr database. becuase thats how they activate phones. Usually all the phones that bell releases are on a bell database.
Most of the time , companies are unwilling to do that.

i work with a CDMA cell phone provider.

I want the LG VX8600 cell phone, but it's under Verizon. I'm from Guam and we don't have Verizon, only local service providers (GuamCell, HafaTEL, and IT&E). The LG VX8600 is CDMA, but I really want the cell phone, since it's not available here on Guam. Does anyone know where I can get it 'unlocked'?

Thanks!

Anthony....you can use the phone tools software to make your own ringtones, but they need to be hacked by another program first to use them on your Razr. Do not try this if you are not a professional phone hacker. Your warranty will be null and void if you fry your phone using this other program.
UNLOCKING CDMA phones....cannot be done. I work for Telus and I'm telling it straight up, it's just a myth.

Ebay.  I bought an unlock code for my Rogers Nokia phone for $4.  It takes about 10 seconds to unlock a phone.  You're getting ripped off if you pay $20.

To the person who works for a Telco.  It is not true that you cannot unlock CDMA phones.  Only that the Telco will not give you the unlock code which is policy but there IS a way around that.  Also, the CDMA providers in N America have all colluded together to agree not to allow ESN# portability.  No way around that unless you clone the ESN# which they have gone to GREAT lengths to prevent by forcing the manufacturers to build in countermeasures to prevent that!

You CAN get the unlock code through social engineering!  Get a phone and #.  Then phone the telco and say you want to change your #.  That requires the unlock code.  You have to do this additional step because there are 2 codes.  One only works the first time and then that unlock code is useless.  The second one is the permanent unlock code.  They will tell you to take it to an authorized retailer to get it changed.  Tell them that is not possible because you are out of the country or in the boonies somewhere or whatever.  They may refuse but if you persist they will eventually give you the unlock code rather than have to deal with an unhappy customers.

Another option is to do an internet search.  There are employees of these telcos with access to the codes that are trying to make a few extra bucks on the side by giving out this info for a fee.

No way past the fact they will not add ESN # from other providers phones though and cloning seems a lot more difficult if not impossible these days.  They say they don't allow other ESN#'s because of support issues with firmware/model differences but that's BS.  There are NO technical reasons preventing the competitors CDMA phone from working just as well as their branded phones.  It's all about the money.

GSM is the way to go!  They don't play ANY of those games.  Your in a contract with them if it's a subsidized phone deal so they don't care if you unlock your phone or not.  The contract ensures they get paid for the cost of the phone no matter what.  All GSM providers I know of will accept foreign phones. It's easy to get them unlocked.
