I don't know much about Dell, but I can tell you about Toshiba. I've been very satisfied with a Toshiba Satellite notebook for several years now. So far so good (knock on wood). I'm not a big fan of Future Shop, but you could check their site to compare notebooks and prices. http://www.futuresho...=1&WLBS=fsweb23

Dell laptops have virtually no support if you have a problem

Avoid buying a USED laptop. They breakdown more easily than PCs and you will pay a lot for support or replacement parts.Note: Laptops will get very hot because of the processors inside. Hence the need for a good fan and constant cleaning. DUST IS YOUR COMPUTER'S ENEMY.Dust is a great conductor of heat so if you keep the heat out of the computer you can keep your computer cool(er).Make sure your computer can breath. Keep it cool and well ventilated.I also recommend Toshiba because they are durable and have an international warranty. Happy Hunting.

Sukoto suggests Toshiba notebooks are a best choice because they have an International Warranty. I have been using Toshiba notebooks for 15 years, some Canadian purchases, some US purchases. I can tell you Toshiba's International Warranty sucks. While I like Toshiba notebooks do not buy them for the International Warranty. For example,in Canada there is only a single repair centre back east that will handle repairs for US purchased machines.

Listen to Orca: buy an iBook - you will not regret!PCs are made by geeks for geeks - I'm horrified daily...But if you do need Windows - Sony have come out with a new model: big screen, slim, "low-cost" (about $2000). Spend money on things you like.

My Dell laptop is still going strong for over 3 years. The support the few times I've needed it from Dell has been good, though I haven't called in a long time so maybe that's changed. I like Dell laptops because they are very customizable. Get it just how you want it.

ACERI've had several Acer laptops within the past few years. I was always happy, never had a hardware problem. But I prefer the Travelmate serie over the Aspire. The TM tablet is really cool!!! I heard only bad stories about Dell, especially re support. But in any case, think about spending a couple hundres more and don't buy the cheapest one. You don't want to regret you "good deal" after a few weeks...
