They all look like such nasty mean men.

Human nature to idolize or deem worthy of respect/awe those people considered the alpha in thier field. In this case the ominious/dark look these people have is all in our minds. Dress them in a plaid 2 piece suit and post them as car salesmen and we would laugh at them.
Its the basis of human sentiment towards religion, unquestioning awe.

You can find some photo anywhere that will make anyone look mean.

Pope Benedict does NOT look at all mean. Pope John Paul i and II did not look at all mean. Pope John XXIII did not look mean. Billy Graham does not look mean. Most Rabbi's do not look mean.

The vast majority of religious leaders of all faiths do not look mean.

But OR? looks for photos that he can characterize as mean, to "make his point". If you are virulently anti-religious, I guess you could see meaness there, because that's what you want to see.
