9 Oclock Gun

9 Oclock Gun Cast in England in 1816, this cannon fires at 9PM each night at Brockton Point in Vancouver's Stanley Park. The gun dates back to a time when ships entering Burrard Inlet needed accurate time settings. Today, the gun can be heard throughout much of Vancouver's West End.


Prospect Point

 

Prospect Point Located in Vancouver's famed Stanley Park, this highest point sits under the Lions Gate Bridge. From Prospect Point, visitors are able to view the North Shore Mountains and the entrance to Burrard Inlet. A gift shop, restaurant and coffee shop are located at this view point.


Brockton Point

 

Brockton Point Located at the east end of Stanley Park, Brockton Point offers a view of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore Mountains. From this navigation point, visitors are only steps away from the 9 O'Clock Gun and several other prime vantage points along the park's seawall. Nearby are Totem Poles, Brockton Oval and the aquarium.


Vancouver Aquarium

 

Vancouver Aquarium Located in Vancouver's Stanley Park, The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre has provided aquatic conservation and education for more than 40 years. Visitors are able to observe Bjossa and Whitewings swim against a backdrop of natural rocks from Mayne Island. For those with an interest in fish, The Aquarium has a number of tanks displaying sea life found in the Tropics and along The West Coast.

History of Stanley Park

 

History of Stanley Park Dedicated by Lord Stanley on October 29,1889, Stanley Park stands as a protected, forested park at the western edge of Downtown Vancouver. The Canadian Government has leased the park to the City of Vancouver for $1 per year since 1887. Over the past 100 years, the park has been a point of interest for both mariners and tourists. The Seawalk officially opened in 1971, providing one of the most scenic jogging areas in the city. Today, the park plays host to numerous attractions including the Vancouver Aquarium.
